How did Joseph Waterhouse get onto this planet?

Joseph Waterhouse (Waterhouse-1592) is my great x 3 grandfather.  He is also my Waterhouse family brickwall.  I don't know where to start with English research but would dearly like to know more about him, his parentage, siblings, other children, etc.  Would someone please help, or guide me?

Does the census say he was born at Hightown?

Have you found him in the other censuses?  There's always the chance of a relative hanging around.

Hightown was a hamlet in Liversedge township, which was part of Birstall parish.

Liversedge didn't have its own Anglican church until 1816, and the church at Hightown is later than that.

FamilySearch shows Josephs baptized at Birstall in 1808 and 1811.  The images are on Ancestry in their West Yorkshire 1512-1812 dataset and should have more info.

Looking at the images on Ancestry, the details for the two Josephs are:

1808 April 3rd Waterhouse Joseph Iredale son of Jeremiah & Hannah of Hightown

1811 September 1st Waterhouse {illegible} Joseph son of William & Hannah of Liversedge

The illegible bit in the 1811 entry looks like it might have been a mistake that was scribbled out.
Thanks.  Looks like we're looking in the right place.  But not as unambiguous as we could have hoped.

Further research is needed.

If we're lucky, one of them died young.

If we aren't, they both did.

His son William married Charlotte.

The marriage register reads:

2 August 1857, Parish Church of Birstall, William Waterhouse, age 22, a wool sorter of Hightown and Charlotte Stables age 18, of Hightown. Father of bride and groom James Stables (blacksmith) and Joseph Waterhouse (Labourer).

The 1861 census records William's place of birth as Hartshead, Yorkshire, around 1835

William was christened 11 January 1835, Hartshead, Yorkshire the son of Joseph Waterhouse & Betty. See: https//
