He lived in 1840 in Clarence Twp, Erie, NY. John and family were in Amherst, Erie Co., NY in 1850 where John aged 70, is listed as a laborer.4 They moved to Lockport, NY about 1852. Originally birth date same as father's; John may have had 3 wives and died after 1860 census in Lockport.5 He was a wood sawyer in 1855 at Lockport, Niagara County, NY.5
Elizabeth Carney9 was born circa 1810 at Erie Co., NY. She was also known as Elizabeth Cassey Probably not a name that was used during her life.10 She was also known as Elizabeth Carey.5 She was also known as Cordelia Carney.11

7. i. Eliza Jane2 Mapes was born on 27 Feb 1841 at Erie Co., NY. She married Vincent C Bowler, son of Vincent C Bowler and Mary Ann Castle. She died on 27 Feb 1917 at Lockport, Niagara, NY, at age 76. She was buried at Cold Spring Cemetery, Lockport, NY.
ii. Mary F Mapes12 was born in 1844 at Erie Co., NY. She married (--?--) Smith. She died on 1 Dec 1917.
She was also known as Mariett Mapes.4
8. iii. Rachel Mapes was born on 25 Sep 1849 at Rockport, Erie, NY. She married William Edgar Maybee. She died on 28 Aug 1934 at WA at age 84.
9. iv. James Edward Mapes was born on 15 Dec 1850 at Amherst, Erie Co., NY. He married Elnora Adelaid Reynolds, daughter of Jedediah Reynolds and Betsey A Winslow, on 13 Dec 1871 at New Fane, Niagara, NY. He died on 30 Nov 1921 at Eli, Cherry County, NE, at age 70. He was buried at Conley Flat Cemetery, Eli, NE, Clearwater/Eli, NE.
v. Adelia Delia Mapes12 was born on 25 Aug 1846 at Erie Co., NY.11 She died on 25 Aug 1934 at WA at age 88.11 She was buried at Mt. Vernon, Skagit, WA.11
She was also known as Harriet Cordelia Mapes Harriet was originally listed as a separate person, but Darold Mapes indicates that she is identical with Adelia Delia Mapes.13 Harriet lived with her sister, Rachel, all of her life since she was handicapped.11 Delia was in ND in 1917.
vi. Charles Mapes7 was born in 1862. He died on 27 May 1907 at Buffalo, State Hospital, NY. He was buried at Bowler Family Lot.
Charles died of lunacy after being in the state hospital for 5 years. He is assumed to be in this family.
