I have marriage record for Mary Ann Duncaton, Somerset, England in 1813. Help with her maiden name/parentage

This was a profile I added before I really knew what I was doing on here.

Her, and husband George are possible the parents of my Ancestor Hannah Garland (I may need to disconnect them if I find conflicting evidence); however my primary concern is that Mary Ann Duncaton Garland is currently on my unsourced list.

I’ve tried all sorts of name variations to try to find a birth record but to no avail. Unless some wonderful wikitreer can find a likely birth record for her I may need to change her LNAB to Unknown and add the marriage record to get her sourced with a note to explain Unknown status.

Hi,

You have a wealth of resources to prove she exists even if you never find a birth/baptism record for her.

You know her maiden name is  Duncaton/Dunkerton - source Marriage record.

The baptisms records/sources on familysearch for George and Mary's children will also confirm relationships and existance  - list of children  John b1814, Hannah b1826, Jane b1828, Mary Ann b1832 and Sarah b1835.  (excludes William b.c1818 and Daniel b.c1823 - could not locate a baptism record for these two).  The records show this family to be the only George and Mary Garland in Bedminster at that time.

The parents - William Garland and Sarah Matthews were married by banns on 16 May 1790 at St John the Baptist in Bedminster.  Witnesses Samuel Cloud and Benjn Price.  Source: Somerset Marriage Index, Somerset Archives, Parish Marriages, Archive ref P/St Jbed/R/3/s, viewed on findmypast.co.uk.

Also note that there is a discrepancy in the birth dates for George and William.  For George, I suspect there may be a transcription error with his birth date. George's 1st marriage in 1813 would have at around 15-16 if he was born in 1797.  Other records point to a birth year of around 1791.  Suggestion is to validate against original records to confirm birth year.

It was George’s birth that was throwing me a little, that’s why I was so keen to find the birth for Mary Ann.

Which spelling variations have you tried? Familysearch has several Mary Dunkerton records around the 1790s in Somerset which may be worth considering.

Thanks Lynda, when I use the parameters of Mary Dunkerton, birth range 1785-1797, Somerset I’m only getting one potential birth? This I discounted as unlikely as Pilton is 25 miles from Bedminster. Obviously this is based a little on an assumption that she married in or near to her home town.

Yes, that’s the right Hannah, it was on this basis I added her father and then her mothers LNAB based on the marriage record I found, I’m not 100% sure now that they are the right George and Mary - whether they are or not I still need a source (other than her marriage record) that Mary Duncaton was born? I should have realised when I created her that she was Duncaton-1 lol what are the chances I would have a brand new surname to Wiki in Somerset of all places lol!

Unless her birth date was recorded in the parish register then I doubt there is a birth record as civil registration of births didn't start till 1837.
