Need help with adopted orphans pre-1700 in New Mexico and Virginia

I just adopted some pre-1700 orphans from my tree and I want to start working on them.  I haven't worked with a project yet so I just want to touch base and see what I need to know before I start researching and adding bios. Samuel Amyx is the only one in Virginia, and then there are about 8 or 10 that were early New Mexico colonists (before the Pueblo Revolt), some born in Mexico. Salazar_Hurtado-1, DeSalazar-10, and De_Salazar-14 are a few examples of the New Mexico profiles. I could really use some help.

US Southern Colonies should be able to help you with the Virginia profile but I'm unaware of any project that works on pre-1700 profiles from the Southwest.  What kind of help do you need ?

US Southern Colonies does cover Spanish colonies according to their project page.  I've sent a message but haven't had a response.  As far as help, I'm ready to start adding bios and sources but the big yellow banner on top says I should be coordinating with a project so that's what I am trying to do.  One question I do have is how to list names.  I know how the Spanish project does it but I need to know if the rules are still the same for New Mexico.  

Also, the records for Spanish New Mexico are pretty sparse but there seems to be a lot of information that people just "know" and have applied to these profiles.  For example, De_Salazar-14, Isabel de Salazar,  lists one set of parents who match an unsourced story I read that when the father died, the daughters were taken from the mother and given to another set of parents.  Yet every source I've found so far lists the 2nd set of parents without any mention of the first set.  Where did this story come from and why are these parents listed on WikiTree when there is no source that even connects them to the daughters?

Hi Marcie, I'm in Southern Colonies so had a look:

I checked the profile and it lists born 1745, Fincastle, Botetourt Co VA, which is formed from Augusta 1769, which means Samuel was born in Augusta, (formed 1745).

Then I see a Bedford Co VA marriage, definitely my territory, so I checked Bedford homepage and was quite surprised to see the surname Amyx listed :

So then not seeing a Hairston marriage I checked that also and there is only this one: 

HAIRSTON

• Jun. 3, 1769; Alexr. Hunter & Martha Hairston; Hugh Hairston, Surety; Consent of Robt. and Ruth Hariston.

So I think your adopted profile will be difficult to source based on what I see. Hope this helps a little, I would not expect to find much documentation that is valid.

Thanks for responding!  As I said above, the yellow banner says I need to coordinate with a project and I guess I need to know what that means and how I should go about it.  Should I add the info I do have and then have someone check it to make sure I did it correctly (which I would welcome since I am new on WikiTree) or do I need to discuss my sources before I add them to the profile?
