The tree on familysearch is also a collaborative tree, but there are fewer mechanisms for active collaboration and for monitoring and reversing errors. The quality of the information on Wikitree is therefore much higher.

And genealogy is always time consuming smiley

Amen to that Eva, Amen to that. yes

Thanks for your answer, I guessed it was the same method but I didn't know if it was a joint database.  As it is not I haven't entered any of my tree, it is pointless entering it on both, it would take forever.  I have already spent 18 years finding the info!
This is the way I look at Family Search, Ancestry, Find My Past, etc.  With their availability of records, they are great places for research and formulating family trees, but only for data from about the last 200 years. For those before 1800, WikiTree has a great wealth of data and a group of like minded folks who want veracity in their data.

I view WikiTree as the archive for all of my well labored research. It is free, like Family Search, but let's just say the standards are a bit higher on the names and data in our Global Tree.  WikiTree isn't really a place for the novice just learning their ropes.  Building a test tree or adding guesstimates is not really the best use of WikiTree as are other websites where you can build multiple family trees with many duplicate names.. However, for your data to last for posterity and cared for, I can think of no better place.
I agree with that,  I have seen so many incorrect entries on Family Search and Ancestry recently where people are just copying other trees without checking.  I always search out my own , my tree is not a large one but I hope it is an accurate one.
Perfectly said, LJ Russell! I was trying to find the words, but you did it better! :)
Well said, LJ! Perfect.
I have my tree on all the major sites.  It is great cousin bait and each has something different to offer.  However, I keep WikiTree as my main online tree as all the other trees have difficulties in keeping them current and updated.   It does take time, but I learn so much in the process and I am only 55.
