This is the way I look at Family Search, Ancestry, Find My Past, etc. With their availability of records, they are great places for research and formulating family trees, but only for data from about the last 200 years. For those before 1800, WikiTree has a great wealth of data and a group of like minded folks who want veracity in their data.
I view WikiTree as the archive for all of my well labored research. It is free, like Family Search, but let's just say the standards are a bit higher on the names and data in our Global Tree. WikiTree isn't really a place for the novice just learning their ropes. Building a test tree or adding guesstimates is not really the best use of WikiTree as are other websites where you can build multiple family trees with many duplicate names.. However, for your data to last for posterity and cared for, I can think of no better place.
