Duplicate individuals with same ID

I seem to somehow have managed to create two individuals with identical WikiTree IDs. I was working on fixing some LNABs to the correct spelling (Gaßmann instead of Gassmann). This somehow created a duplicate person, Gaßmann-266, who is shown as two separate brothers for Gaßmann-268, once with the old spelling, and once with the new. I would merge one of them away, but it seems that I can't do that because the ID seems to be shared by two different pages (???)

Did you try the merge, and get an error message?  I'm not sure I understand your question.  You should be able to do it.   Gassmann-xx and Gaßmann-xx are different IDs, even if the numbers are the same.

Nope. Both individuals clearly have the ID Gaßmann-266. One of them is Jakob Friedrich Gassmann (listed with two 'ess', but linking to Gaßmann-266), and the other is Jakob Friedrich Gaßmann (correct spelling, but also linked to Gaßmann-266). Each of them shows a brother, who is the profile with the other spelling, but the same ID. I tried following an earlier suggestion and took the Gaßmann-266 profile off the father relation, which removed both of the sons, but when I then linked one of them back in, they both show up again. I think I may have somehow busted a record lock during my edits.
OK, I see what you mean.  It looks like they were merged (look at the changes tab for Jakob).  I think if you disconnect Jakob from the family, then reconnect him, it will go away.  Or, it might just be a matter of giving WT some time to update the database.
OK. I'll wait. Unlinking and relinking did not seem to do anything. Thanks.
I think you should try removing Gassmann-139 from the sister - that is where he shows up in error.
If I read this correctly, Gassmann-139 redirects to Gaßmann-266. This is the name change I intended to achieve. So, am I correct in assuming that I now have a profile Gassmann-139 that is still attached --- not just to the sister, but also to Gaßmann-266 itself? What really puzzles me is that one version of Gaßmann-266 claims to have a brother with the last name Gassmann, and when I click on that link, the profile also has a brother --- evidently linked to the same profile, but perhaps redirected --- with the last name Gaßmann. (And vice versa!)
It's a known bug (with unknown cause).

The profile is merged (which does involve a redirect).
It's just a "ghost" of Gassman-139 that is left on the sister.
The sister is where the ghost has to be removed from.
Oh, I see, the ghost appears on the father as well.
I'd say, this looks like it's above my pay grade :)
Took the liberty to remove Gassman-139 from the father.
I think that exorcised the ghost.
That did it. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!

This happens frequently with merges.

But, as you guys have already discovered, it is with the parent-child relationships that get stuck on the old ID (and no, they don't have the "same ID", because that would be impossible -- the old ID redirects to the new ID, but both are still attached to the parent)

Simply disconnecting the old ID from the parent will fix it.

In the database records, only parent-child relationships exist. Sibling relationships can only exist through a parent. (and spouse relationships are in a separate DB table, so these often get stuck with merges as well)
