Hi, Sandra,, and welcome to WikiTree. I found the profile, but it helps when asking a question on G2G if you provide what details you know.

I’m closing down for the night. If your question hasn’t been answered by morning, I’ll get on it.

I hope you find your experience on WikiTree is as fruitful as mine is.

Yes, thanks Pip, I have been posting on the profile you mentioned, my grandfather's.  I am looking for anything on the country of origin for Walter Lee Hildebrand's parents/grandparents.  I have no info beyond his parentage. His death certificate information was provided by Roy Hildebrand, and it seems like my mother mentioned that Roy was his brother. Both of her parents died when she was very young.  I didn't really know any of my family.  Surely someone out there has something. I am a newbie to genealogy, so I appreciate any help you may offer.
In the 1870 census for Washington Missouri, John, age 21, living in household of his mother Elizabeth and father Henry. State of birth is given as Virginia. Henry born about 1819 Hanover Germany.  Elizabeth born about 1825 in Virginia.  Marriage record for Elizabeth Click married February 24 1845 to John Henry Hildebrand in Shenandoah Virginia

Name on census mistranscribed as HILDERBRAND
Thanks for finding the profile Pip. Sandra, I have linked it to your question to make it easier for those who want to help you. You can do this yourself in the future by putting the Wikitree id into the box under the main text box of the question.

Morning, Sandra! I see that Eddie King (The X-treme Kong, as he calls himself) has found some really good info. He does that a lot. laugh I mean, A LOT!

I’ll look around in just a bit, as I have to have a couple of cups of joe before I can get going.

Thanks for the help!
Thanks so much to everyone for the information and the help!  It is exciting to see my family unfold.

There is a John H. Hildebrand who served in Co. B, 49th Iowa as a private, though this would be a little old for serving, but then they didn’t have the age restrictions.

Better: a John H. served in the 4th Missouri State Militia, Cavalry, age 30, in 1865. In ‘61 he was with with the Missouri Home Guards, both Union outfits.
