If the indexer did his job properly there are precisely 190 people mentioned in Ynglinga Saga. (I counted them last night). Some half dozen are scalds (probably real people we don't have on Wikitree). Of those 190 only a handful are muddleable. There is one Dag of Westmare with no parents or wife. He had a daughter Liv (Hlif) indexed like that. She married Halfdan the Mild and is not noted as having had any other husband. (She might perhaps occur in another Saga). Currently this version of Halfdan has four wives, Liv, Lif, Hlif and unknown, all bar Liv having no content. Two of the merges I set up last night have been postponed or rejected on the grounds of date or content. I'm beginning to think that I don't get the point.

I'm wondering if there should be a project including profiles from Scandinavia before the year 950 or thereabouts... including the mythological profiles.

Well, there could be, of course, something as a subproject of EuroAristo - or whatever project deals with myths and legends.

But I'm not sure that would do much good about this situation.
Euroaristo has a subproject for pre-742 (that being Charlemagne's DOB), but within that time frame there are areas of specialized knowledge.  C. has a copy of the saga, which positions her well to work on this area, and I've gladly turned any pre-742 Scandanavian profiles that I adopted over to her!

I'm sure she'd welcome help, but these specialized areas often become the province of just one person who has the interest, the knowledge, the resources and the energy.

My salute to C.!

With the Ynglinga Saga, at least, it does seem a project would be "notable," especially given the lengths to which the effort is being made to index and sort through what provides meaningful reference points and what falls away as esoteric traces, left to history.

I am so sorry to read this C. Can I do anything to help, beside saluting your efforts to clean up this horrendous mess? I have zero knowledge of sagas, unfortunately.
