Why doesn't WikiTree advise people using Cousin Bait that Facebook requires cell phone number?

I followed Cousin Bait for Charles Reuben Miller using your link to open an account on Facebook Aug 11 and add the larger family tree picture to my profile. August 14 Facebook blocked my access to the profile because I won't give them a mobile phone number.  I don't have a mobile phone.  Only a computer with email and a land line.  They won't accept the land line number.  You've put me in a bad situation where my information is on a profile I can't access. How do I get out of this mess?

Try Google Voice. It will give you a number that you can use on Facebook and you can receive text messages on the web in your browser.

While I'm a bit surprised Facebook can won't let you use a landline if you can receive email,  there's a lot I don't know!

Anyway,

I use Google Voice all the time.   It used to have some annoying bugs that they resolved a few years ago..... it's a great option when you know you'll be put on hold forever,,,,, just put on headphones, open a new tab to work on other things on your computer and you don't even feel like  you're on hold.

Good point, Peggy!

Thanks for the star, Maggie. blush

This is Pat. THE STAR WAS PREMATURE! I went to the link and they said they couldn't create the account.  I tried my old tablet which has android to see if that would help.  They said--this item is not available in your country.  My country is Canada.

I'm beyond trying to make this work.  I want my profile deleted from Facebook.  It's dangerous to have my data there with no way to access it. To permanently delete my Facebook account I have to log into it.  And I'm blocked.

Again, does anybody know how I can get out of this mess? PLEASE HELP!
I sent an email to FACEBOOK.  Hope they respond.

This has nothing to do with WikiTree at all.

Its entirely an issue with creating accounts on FaceBook, and their policy. You would need to contact Facebook directly.

Yes, Dennis, it does have something to do with WikiTree.  I was following WikiTree's Cousin Bait and they provided the link to Facebook.  They provided the images of my family tree and suggested I put them on Facebook.

But you are right that I can only solve this through Facebook.  WikiTree can't help me.
I am happy to report that contacting Facebook several times seems to have worked.  A friend who has Facebook couldn't find my profile so they've taken it down.  And this is what I wanted.  If I can't access the profile I don't want it left there.
