In theory, we are all related to each other. The connection finder is a fun little tool to see how we are connected.

Those connection links you are seeing at the bottom of each profile are to feature our Connection Finder.  Queen Victoria stays the same each week but the other two will change. One features our profile of the week - this week is Judy Garland. The other features our member of the week - this week that is Mindy.    Whatever profile you are on, you can see how that person is connected to those featured people.

^^^What the WikiTree Forest Elf said, but I wanted to add that connected doesn't necessarily mean related. That connection can be made through people who aren't related to you by blood, but perhaps through stepmother of someone who married someone, who married someone, who married someone, you are related to. It can really get very convoluted and can be fun to trace.

Just wondering... why don’t we use Elizabeth II’s father, George VI? He’s closer to the present monarch than Victoria by quite a bit, and it gets as close as we can to the GRDOEOENDNJENDNEN (whatever those initials are about European privacy) privatized Elizabeth II. Just wondering.
Hm, I'm going to say it's because when we asked for suggestions about who to replace QEII with, many folks hopped on the Queen Victoria bandwagon so that's who we went with. :)
Gotcha! Read Wheeler-Bennett’s bio of George VI, and have been an admirer ever since. I think there’s a newer one out. More $$ for Amazon!
I think ultimately Victoria was chosen because most people immediately recognize her. I'm not so sure we could say the same for George VI.
True, true. But I bet folks here who lived through the war might. So few left, though. I would have loved to have met him, but born too late, and Elizabeth’s been the queen all of my life.
why don’t we use Elizabeth II’s father, George VI?

Probably because he has living offspring, which would make for less possible connections. You can connect through any direction with Victoria.

That makes sense. Sooo smiley how about the previous king, George’s famous brother, Edward the Abdicator? Just had to ask. laugh

How about...Victoria! Most people will recognise her.

Ah, Ros. I was a history major first time around and have been a student ever since, especially British history. I could pick any of them! smiley
