How do I add a partner, not spouse, to an ancestor's profile which already includes a spouse?

If the other party was not a spouse, all you can do is explain the relationship in the biography.  To add a spouse, see FAQ #3.  The presence of an existing spouse makes no difference in either case.

I find that if you add the father and the mother seperately to the child, then this tends to make them parents but not spouses.

If you click the spouse link on the parents profile page (when you are editing) then they do get linked as spouses and so you want to AVOID that spouse link!!  LOL

Thank you very much.

I agree that this is the best solution if what you're really trying to indicate is the parent of a child who's not in any kind of relationship with the other parent of the child.

But if what you're trying to indicate is a non-spousal relationship (unmarried but still in a relationship) between two people (regardless of whether either of them is the parent of any children with the other), you'll have to just explain it in the biography and link to the other profile there, as Herbert suggested.

I've just made a proposal to create a navigation box template for these situations. Opinions welcome.
