Question re: Merge - Willem Cuser [closed]

Hi everyone,

I proposed a merge of Cuser-1 and Cuser-2 (both representing Heer Willem Cuser, an illegitimate son of the House of Avesnes).  Current research indicates that his parentage is not known and scholars such as Bart den Hertog are investigating possible solutions.  What is known is that he was the (great) grandson of Jan I of Avesnes and his wife, Aleida of Holland based on his coat of arms, as well as Count Willem IV of Hainault's acknowledged kinship to him (See, for example, "Karel de Grote: Reeks 66: Deurvorst IV" and www.andredenhaan.ismijnpassienl (Citing "Op zoek naar de vader van Willem die Cuser," Bart den Hertog's article in De Nederlandsche Leeuw).  For a long time, Willem Cuser was listed as one of the illegitimate sons of Jan II of Avesnes, hence my question: research by den Hertog and others has established that Willem Cuser, while a close relative of Jan II, was not his child.  His parents are unknown.  However, trying to complete the merge is requiring me to choose parents as one of the profiles lists them.  Should I go ahead with the merge and then unlink afterwards?  I'm not sure what else to do at this point.  Thanks so much for any input!

You can either unlink before or after the merge.   Make sure you include a section in the biography about both sets of parents, so that everyone knows why they were unlinked.

Thanks, I'll do that!  I guess it would be easier to unlink after the merge.
