Time to remove the parents? [closed]

Starting over 3 years, many discussions have been help on the Ancestry of this person.   The main source of "Unknown" parents comes from "The Knox family; a genealogical and biographical sketch of the descendants of John Knox of Rowan County, North Carolina, and other Knoxes, by Hattie S. Goodman", https://hdl.handle.net/2027/loc.ark:/13960/t6pz58f86 Link

To this point, no serious sources have been found to prove his parents.   There are a lot of differing opinions and lots of guesses, but, nothing substantial.

To improve the accuracy of our data surrounding the US Presidents Project, I would like to suggest that we remove this set of parents with a clear explanation of "why".

Thoughts?

There is a John Knox, born October 15 1682 in Renfrew. His father was Adam Knox. Sending you email of doc.
Thanks for all of your help, I am adding to the profile with some evidence explained theories.
My apologies. Of course I'm not an expert.
I will be glad to look into this.
Beginning to look as a reasonable comment. Don't downgrade yourself not being an expert. If you can begin with internet searches and have invested time, then that has a lot of weight.

Your research is extremely valuable.

I have no idea about the specific case, but I agree with you, very much, on the general priciple.

If you would like to persue the Ad Knox theory, Scotlandspeople have a baptism for a John Knox on 2 Jan 1709 in Renfrew. Parents Adam Knox and Margaret Knox. Might be worth a closer look before making the decision to remove them.

If we believe the source cited above, that there was a headstone that indicated his death as 10/1758 and 50 years old, then a search of 11/1707-9/1709 reveals 8 men born with the name John Knox.   If someone wanted to research those 8 men, we might be able to find our John Knox through the process of elimination.
Good suggestion Robin. Maybe it would be best to leave the current parents in place and put your suggestion in a research note. If you remove them, then there is an additional risk of duplicates being created the next time someone visits the profile.
Susan, I have removed the best answer star that you gave me. My response was just offering a source for one potential set of parents that might fit. I did not mean it to be interpreted as being the definitive answer. I feel the best answer star on this one should not be awarded until someone can say with more certainty who the correct parents are.
I will be glad to research the eight links you mentioned.

Will let everyone know what I find out.
