Jim Chamberlin doesn't have a profile yet, but he's listed on the British Columbia Aviation Figures page.

Thanks for the tip Greg! I will add him to my list of notables to try and build in! :)

My proper maiden name is Chamberlain (it's a long story) so I'm interested! I think my line goes up into the northeast (NY, MA, NJ) but I haven't done much research yet.

Hi Katie!

I would be so happy to have your help and to work with you on your Chamberlain connection.

My grandmother is a Chamberlin whose family traces back to Vermont and Massachusetts and I’ve really enjoyed connecting it together.

Currently I’m just working on adding Chamberlins to WikiTree, adding them to the project and attempting to build in famous Chamberlins.

I’ll add you to the project. Please feel free to join in where you can. I’ll be expanding the categories soon I think to further break the project down a bit. :)

Not sure if you are still looking but I would be happy to help.
Hi Andrea,

I’m so sorry for the tardy reply  Life got pretty wild for a while there!

In my one name study I’m looking to gather Chamberlin/Chamberlain lines together. We can work on connecting Chamberlins together, add famous Chamberlins etc. Essentially research the surname as best we can to help fellow researchers with their Chamberlin work. I’d love to have you on board if you’re still interested.
Hi Robin, no worries at all, I think we are all thrown off right now!  I've found some Chamberlin/lain's that don't seem to be on Wiki tree so it would be nice to add them in.  I also happened across this years Chamberlin family reunion I attended as a child. Sorry, got excited I guess!

Hi Robin,

I'd like to join the Chamberlain one-name study. My gg-grandfather was [[Chamberlain-2756|William J Chamberlain]] b appx 1809 in New Hampshire, had moved south to Galveston TX by 1828, lived in Washington Co TX in 1841 then moved to Louisiana, where he married a woman named "Anne" in 1842. In the next 10 years they had five children in Louisiana, but in 1855 the family moved back to Texas. In 1856 the family's last child was born in Leon Co. TX. I've not been able to find any records of the time he was in Louisiana. No clues as to Anne was. I know from the 1860 census that she was born in 1818 in St. John New Brunswick Canada. I've worked on this brick wall for years without any success.

Hi Deb,

I’d love to have you on board! Let me know if you’re still interested!
Hi Robin,

Your reply never reached me. I'm still interested in the Chamberlain One-Name-Study if it's still going. :)

Wondering if you still need help ?  My Chamberlin ancestors came from Massachuttes to help Philomen Wright build mills and helped settle the Chelsea area of Ottawa-Hull in the early 1800's.

Thanks, Jennifer

Hello everyone!

My apologies for being a super disorganized ONS leader. My goal with the Chamberlin/lain ONS is simply to add notables, connect lines, and categorize Chamberlins to help many of us with research and DNA connections :)

I'm going to add interested parties to the study page today and take another look at the project and hopefully, I can get some better organization going here.

Thanks so much for all of your interest! I really appreciate it!

My husbands gggrandfather, William Chamberlain,[[Chamberlain-1979|William H Chamberlain (abt.1828-abt.1900)]].

I have many descendants, but would like to trace the line back as far as I can.

First of all, I am not certain if I have already replied to this. I have 2 lines of Chamberlain in my direct ancestors. They both start with Richard Chamberlain 1510-1563 England. through Henry. Hopefully, they are correct.

I am William Chamberlain, my ancestor was Josiah Chamberlain who moved to Lower Quebec to build mills for the wright family. I would like to find out who was the father of Francis William Chamberlain of 1589 who came to the states on the Marmaduke ship in 1621.

I was unaware that there was already a Chamberlin Name Study when I initiated a Chamberlayne Name Study last year. My apologies!   blush   Not sure what to do now - should we merge them somehow, or what would be the most helpful solution?

by Frances Piercy-Reins G2G6 Mach 6 (67.7k points)
Hi Frances!

That’s totally okay. I’m sure this happens frequently

I would say if we want to merge the two Studies and co-manage that would be possible. I wouldn’t mind that. We could also keep separate studies for spelling variations. I think it’s our personal preference. Might be easiest to have Chamberlain variations in one place.

I guess we would have to run it by the One Name Study folks too but I’m game for any suggestions.

All those suggestions would be fine with me - your idea to run it by the One Name Study folks is a good one - they probably have lots of experience with this kind of thing and can perhaps suggest how to connect the two Studies so that it's still possible to tell the difference.
Hi Frances and Robin

We can merge the two studies together, the only decision that needs to be made is which surname is to be the main one, and which is to be the variant.  I don't see that there needs to be any changes to the actual page names.

I'll look forward to your decision.

Amy, ONS Project Leader
Hey Amy!

I would recommend Chamberlain as the most common spelling of the surname with Chamberlin, Chamberlayne etc. being variants.

Perfect!  I'll get them looked after for you, with both of you as co-Coordinators.
I'm quite happy with that. Thanks Amy!

I have some Chamberlain ancestors, and in the process of trying to clarify some lines, have encountered some apparent confusion regarding individuals named Joseph Chamberlain or Chamberling & families in Massachusetts Connecticut during the early 18th century. One question concerns the form "Chamberling" and whether this indeed is just a spelling variant as it seems to have been treated in at least some Mass. records (I may have to post separately on the context of this matter). TIA for any preliminary feedback.
by Don Osborn G2G6 (9.5k points)
Hi Don,

I’ve never heard of or seen Chamberling before as a variant. That’s a new one to me, but I would suppose it’s possible.

I hope that’s helpful. I’m not sure what other feedback I can give.

Feel free to add your Chamberlain relatives to our study if you wish :)

Thanks Robin. The Chamberling spelling crops up a fair amount in Mass. during the 18th century - that's my impression, without having researched the matter in any detail. I've put up profiles of a family that evidently used this spelling - and which includes two Josephs.

A larger issue related to the recurrence of similar names & close birth dates in different lines, appears to be inconsistent trees across different secondary sources. (For example, one tree cited a primary source for a Joseph C. with a set of parents outside of that tree.) Seems like much work to be done!

In the meantime, I added several Chamberlains to the Mass. subcategory of the name study.

I descend from Chamberlain in New Jersey. I am new to Wiki and not sure how to join and participate in projects, guidance would be appreciated. I don't think my tree is connected that far yet.
