Hi Looking for information about Edward Pierce from or lived in Morgantown PA, He married Elizabeth Posey, But I cannot find anything about Edward, maybe that was not his first name? Would like to know who his parents were,

Was told we are related to Franklin Pierce the president, but cannot track anything from Pierces brothers to an Edward. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

What have you researched so far?

Hi, Thanks for the quick response. As I am an amateur at research, am mostly looking for my son who is very interested in geneology, so I am trying to help him, with correct information.
Anyway, I have Edward Pierce Born 1-21-1796 in Morgantown, Berks County, PA
Married Elizabeth Posey 3-16-1816 (have a lot of information about her)
They had a lot of children, Rachel, Mary Ann, Elizabeth Martha, Sarah, Jeminah, John,Micajah, , Syndey and Edward.
I am a descandent of Micajah (Micagei), had a daughter Ella, my great grandmother.

I am sure about Ella Pierce, and her father Micagei Pierce, but from there on back not so sure. Someone told me Micagei parents were Edward and Elizabeth Pierce but I am having trouble with that.

Like I said I am just trying to help out my son get the facts straight. As I have not paid to join a service like Ancenstry yet, because I don't have the time. Would love to do that someday, but thought I would try here.

Donna,

Is this information found on Find-a-Grave accurate?

Name: Micagei Pierce
Birth Date: 7 Jun 1830
Age at Death: 65
Death Date: 3 May 1896
Burial Place: Terre Hill, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA
URL: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-...

Yes as far as I know. I once found his name spelled differently, maybe a census but I do belive the tombstone is correct.

This is information I got from a man named John Gibble, it was on another website,  My lineage comes from Micagei second marriage and last daughter born, Ella.

"If I understood rightly our great, great grandmother was pure Indian. I think they were from around Philadelphia. The Indian strain is from grandmother’s side. Her name was Wamsher. My mother used to tell me how her Indian grandmother held her in her lap. She also told me about a little girl named Posey who carried home-made bread across the line to Washington’s army"

I would venture to say that the Mrs. Hopf that wrote the letter to my mother was from either the Zook or the Pierce family, since my mother was a Zook and her mother was a Pierce. I have traced our Zook roots all the way back into Switzerland, and have found nothing about a Native American in the family or the name Wamsher. Recently I found in some other information among some of my mother's items that gives me some additional information. It appears that my great grandmother was Anjaline Wamsher (b - 19 December 1830; d - 12 December 1830) who married Micagei Pierce (b - 7 June 1830; d - ?). They may be buried in the Terre Hill Cemetery, Lancaster County, PA. They had 11 children:
Jonathan (b - 2 December 1852; d - 25 March 1855)
Sarah (10 February 1855; d - 15 March 1870)
Henry W. (10 August 1857; d - 17 November 1924)
Eliza W. (b - 1 February 1860; d - 20 June 1939; married - Unknown Brandis)
Sidney (b - 7 June 1862; d - ?; married - Unknown Stirk)
Edward (11 August 1864; d - 29 August 1936)
Emaline (14 October 1866; d - 11 February 1906; married 1st - Unknown Weidman, 2nd - Lewis Matz; buried in Shillington, Berks county, PA, Fairview Cemetery)
Theodore (b - 18 July 1869; d - 24 March 1870)
Rudy (b - 13 May 1872; d - 31 January 1956)
Howard (b - 30 May 1874; d - ?)
Lydiana, also know as Annie (b - 5 September 1876; d - 15 October 1926)

Micagei Pierce married second Mary Sweigart (b - ?; d - 15 September 1901). Children to second wife:
Peter S. (b - 26 April 1881)
Louisa S. (b - 31 January 1882; married - Unknown Bausher)
Ella S. (b - 18 August 1885; d - 19 June 1962; married 1st - Unknown Rebholz, 2nd - Unknown Hohl)
I'm not positive about this being your guy, but in trying (not very successfully) to find Micagei in 1850, I found the following family unit in West Cocalico, Lancaster, Pennsylvania:

Edd Pears [a possible spelling variation for Pierce], 59, laborer

Elizabeth, 56

John, 22

Also living in the same household is: Joseph Lauckenbread? [difficult to read], 45, laborer; Samuel Dulinbean?, 23, laborer; George Frantz, 30, laborer
Be always wary of Indian ancestry claims by otherwise Northern European-descended ancestors... So many have proven to be false... Doesn't mean it isn't true, but do the due diligence required to prove it...

Could be the right family, , in the right area, and they did have a son John, if it is the same Pierce. So hard to find anything, and the census has so many misspellings. I do have Edward and Elizabeth Pierce having the following children

I see Micagei name is spelled differently, ack, so confusing!

Father of Rachel Rebecca Pierce, Mary Ann Pierce, Elizabeth Pierce, Martha Pierce, Sarah H Pierce, Jeminah Pierce, John Pierce, Micajah Pierce, Sydney Pierce and Edward Pierce
Oh thanks for all your hard work in researching this!
Yes Jilliane I agree with you about being wary, I am not so concerned with his first marriage. Thank you!
Donna,

Inconsistencies in name spelling-- both first and last-- are frequent prior to 1900.

Why you should be concerned with his first marriage: finding it could provide you clues as to the identity of the parents for Micaji.

:-)
Where do you look for marriage certificates? I am guessing you have to belong to a paid site? One of these days I have to join, is Ancenstry.com the best , I've seen other ones out there. (Just an amateur at geneology, sorry! )
Micagei first wife was Anjaline Wamsher (b - 19 December 1830; d - 12 December 1830
Anjaline's death date cannot be correct: a) dying a week before she was born? b) dying before she was married or had 11 children through 1876?

Finding birth certificates depends on the state and county and time period. Only a fraction of U.S. birth certificates/records have been digitized and made available online-- whether through free or paid sites. Also, actual marriage and birth *certificates* were an invention of the late 1800s (typically after 1880?). Earlier than that, you'd need to look at church records-- again, only a fraction of which have been digitized and put online.

But the LDS (Mormon Church) has microfilmed practically every record known to man. While they are slowly converting their filmed contents to digital, you may still need to order the microfilm through your local LDS family search center and read through church records. OR you hire someone else to do it for you.

Sorry, I have to get my dates in order, right now everything is in a mess.
Thanks for the link! I have a lot of people from Lancaster, this should be very helpful!

1860 Census:

Ephrata, Lancaster, Pennsylvania:

Micaji Pierce, 27, carpenter, b PA

Angeline, 27

Sarah, 4

Henry, 3

Eliza, 2 months

If Sarah was the oldest, it implies a marriage of Micaji and Angeline about 1855.

That means we should find Micaji with parents and/or siblings in the 1850 census. Do you know Angeline's maiden name?

I could not find Micaji (var. spellings) in the 1850 census. Knowing the name of his first wife might help.

In 1870, Micagea (!) and wife Angeline and first five children are found in East Earl, Lancaster, PA. He's farming.

Some updates to the info that John Gibble gave you. Found through familysearch.org:

Ella S. Pierce who m1. ___ Rebholz, married 2nd on 10 Sep 1918 in Harrisburg, Dauphin, Co., PA Washington K. Kohl.

Emaline Pierce who m1 ___ Weidman, married 2nd 28 Apr 1900 in Reading, PA Lewis H. Matz.

You might find others through familysearch.org. I was searching for Angeline Pierce after little luck with Micaji. In the process, saw a couple of cases where he was recorded as MICHAEL!
