Marie Ursule Philippeaux (tagged) married a man named Hugues Cochran dit Floridor in Québec on 26 Nov 1685, listed as son of Jacques Cochran and Rachel Canady, Jetté states his origin as the parish of St-Jean (presumably St-John) in Hair, Scotland.  Not a clue where this might be,   Haven't created his profile, his date of death is known, he is buried on 20 Dec 1689 in Québec, the record giving him 26 years of age.  He was a merchant, and from what I can make out from litigation following his death, must have been fairly affluent.  Anybody want to see if they can trace him back to Scotland?

I had a quick scan on Scotland's People but couldn't find anything on Cochran in the time frame and the only Rachel Canady I found was on the 1841 Census at aged 30.  There are a few records in Drouin Collection 1621-1968 but I don't have full access

The Drouin collection part I have access to, it's Scotland that I know nothing about really.

Have been digging around a bit more and am wondering if St-Jean in Hair, Scotland could be St John's Ayr, Scotland?  There was a church dedicated to St John the Baptist in Ayr at the time.

that sounds likely, the way things got written on records when it was another language is pretty hairy sometimes (pun intended).
