I stress that this is family hearsay.The link my ancestors made come from the fact that a family member joined what were to become the first settlers in a village in Nottinghamshire, England called SCROOBY. Wether or not they completed the journey to Holland and then back to England before setting sail over the Pond is a matter of conjecture,

Married Elizabeth Elston at Thorpe Arnold, Liecestershire England on 4 October 1732 (Bishops Transcript Thorpe Arnlod and Brentingby) They had three children John CLATON Cr 20Jan 1733, Robert CLATEN Cr 12 Dec 1742 m Elizabeth Dawson at t Mary's Liecester. and William CLAYTON Born 1744, Married Sarah Stokes at Thorpe Arnold 26 May 1782. They had two children Mary (out of wedlock) and William. Sarah Died 20 Jan 1794. William(1744) remarried, Sarah Stone on18 April 1796 who was born11 September 1775 Cr 15 September1775 daughter of Wiiliam and Mary STONE
