NOTE TO ALL who have helped ;  Unfortunately, my  cousin passed away before I have located Plinys parentage.  Now, he is on a journey which will take him to those we have been searching for, and many more. I must search nearly alone As those who are interested have little time.  I found my cousin through genealogy , perhaps one of you are also mine'. thanks.   waiting for answers from birth record inquiries.

Is this the one? https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/71973207
There are multiple ancestry.com records for him. He was married in DC.

He was a reverend. In 1871 he lived in Cambridge as a pastor. He had another wife named Roxanna. I do not know if the children he had are hers or the other wife.

This census lists:

Name Age
Pliny Wood 50
Roxanna H Wood 49
Isabel R Wood 23
Ella D W Wood
Name: Reverend Pliny Wood
Publication Year: 1863
Publication State: Massachusetts
School Name: Wesleyan Academy
Residence: Chicopee
Title: Thirty-eighth annual catalogue of the Wesleyan Academy, Wilbraham, Mass. 1862-3.

He was a mason:

Name: Pliny Wood
Death Date: 13 May 1864
Last Residence Place: Wakefield
Lodge: Mount Moriah
Occupation: Painter

There is a lot of information. Let me know if you would like me to do any more lookups, or have questions. Are you looking for DNA linked people for some sort of donation? Please let me know the interest.

Thankyou. Pliny died in 1864 so the later pliny is not him. The Chicopee info is interesting. He did marry in DC naval yard. , Elizabeth Dove.  Wish thank I could find the parents. Son Mayo is my 2ggf with him the family split, 2 wives. Neither of us knew for over 150yrs.   thank you much

I found Pliny Wood, married to Elizabeth Dove 17 Jun 1845. He entered the military (US Marine Corps Muster Rolls)  on 20 Apr 1835 in Brooklyn, NY. The record is too hard to read to see what his position was. He re-enlisted on 19 Feb 1839 in "barracks near Boston".  The record for 8 Mar 1843 shows him as assigned to the U.S. Frigate Macedonia. His Find-a-Grave record says that he died in Virginia and that he is buried in Massachusetts. Other than those bits of information, I can find no definitive records of the parents of Pliny Wood on Geneanet, FindMyPast, FamilySearch, My Heritage, or Ancestry.

thank you. amazed you are so fast.  It is the frigate Macedonia which always escapes me. I will look it all over again. much appreciated
Is Pliny short for something. I found it to be quite an odd name so much so that I thought the two different Pliny must be related.
I doubt that Pliny is short for something else. He was probably named for the famous Roman, Pliny the Elder:

Cool, thank you
