He married a Mary E. Jordan and she passed away in 1917. He had two children - James A. and Elma Taylor. He boarded a train in the late 1800's and was never seen again. I'm trying to see if he had any brothers, cousins anything to help get past this brick wall.  We have no idea of a birth date or death.  Thank you Debra

John A Taylor

Marriage record:

"Alabama Marriages, 1816-1957," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQKF-RQH : 9 February 2018), J. A. Taylor and Mary E. Jordan, 24 Sep 1884; citing reference ; FHL microfilm 1293900 V. A-D.

The 1880 Census showed only one John Taylor in Washington County:

"United States Census, 1880," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4VV-LVN : 12 August 2017), John Taylor in household of Marion Taylor, Beat 1, Washington, Alabama, United States; citing enumeration district ED 178, sheet 126D, NARA microfilm publication T9 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll 0034; FHL microfilm 1,254,034.

I couldn't find this family in 1860 or 1870.

Thank you Herbert, so apparently they lived in another part of Alabama before 1880. I'll have to do more digging... thank you again.

Thanks for the star, Pip!  smiley
