Hello Wikitreers,

The England Project is looking for people who are interested in England, have English Ancestors, or who would just like to come and help in the project.

Our project members are dedicated, friendly people, whose main goal is to improve, source and generally make sure that England profiles are accurate and

presented to a high standard, which honours the person.

It doesn't matter if you are an experienced Wikitreer or have just joined and are still finding your way around, you will be given as much support as you need

whilst you get used to the intricacies of English records and the nuances of the towns and cities.

Your first stop would be our newly formed Orphans Team, where you would work on England orphaned profiles that are in need of some TLC. Hone your skills and maybe

learn new ones, as you settle in and meet our members. From there the sky is the limit. We have a number of sub projects which you could join, from

helping with a county or working on profile improvement by sourcing, connecting and biography writing to develop profiles of a high standard.

Remember, every snippet of sourced information added to a profile brings it to life.

Check out our [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:England England Project] page to learn more.

You will be awarded the England badge when you join and also be invited to join our google group.

Follow Tags for United_Kingdom and England so you can keep up to date.

If you are new to Wikitree and have not become a full member, you will need to volunteer and sign our honor code to receive your wiki genealogist badge, which is a necessity for editing profiles.

Remember, you can still use the {{England Sticker}} for people born in England and {{England Ancestor Sticker}} on your own profile.

If this opportunity interests you, then please click the <b>ANSWER</b> button and include your Wiki ID in your answer.

You need to add a few tags onto this question, Gilly. smiley

Such as 'england', 'united kingdom'?

Tags may be there but it  still took me ages to find this thread when replying to someone wanting to create pre 17th C profiles.
It's in the Tree House.  Most projects can be found in Requests for Project Volunteers.

But more could be done by tagging important threads distinctively.  For instance, a simple way to start an FAQ would be to tag some good threads with "faq".
Hello,

I think the England project is the perfect place for my Thomas Spencer project. Thomas Spencer's  mother and father is a mystery. perhaps someone would help assist me in finding his family?

Hi Gilly! I’d love to help with the Cornwall sub-project. However, my knowledge of English sources is sparse, and some lines I have there are new to my research. What think ye? If you think I can help...

Hi Gilly,

I have United Kingdom badge, etc but I think I’m linked up wrong.

I get weekly updates from the Great War category but I get nothing England project  related?

I would love to help more, being one of us fewer English folk!

Hi, I'd like to join the England project. My interests are mainly Yorkshire, particularly Ineson/Ianson and related families, and the area around Batley/Morley. I have done some pre 1700 work on the Iansons but am new here so I would like to join a project and put on my post 1700 tree before I start the early ones. Thanks!

I would like to join the England Project and the Google Group to learn more about England places and to discuss how the overlap of church names, religious parish names and civil parish names affects category names for places and religious topics, especially religious institutions

Please sign me up. I am interested in tracing my own family tree, as well as helping to find sources for others tracing theirs. I am South African and now live in England, but have great great grandparents who were born here, and have managed to find some of them through FamilySearch.

I'd like to be involved with the project. I live in England and was a research librarian so not bad at researching and understanding English peculiarities. If you think I can be of use, id be pleased to help.

I'm researching my family 'Fretwells' based in Isle of Axeholm, Lincolnshire, England. Though it's said all Fretwells are related and came over from France with William the Conqueror.

I've done quite a bit of research over the years but have spent time nursing my partner through pancreatic cancer and has we moved most of my research is stored. Now he has passed away I have time to return to my research. Hope I can be of help.

Please count me in as a new member of the England project!  Ironically, at the same time that I heard word this week from Ancestry's new interpretation of my DNA data that I now have "zero percent" English DNA--I know for sure that can't be true (and told them so), since I'm also finding that so far, my only proven genealogical and DNA match relative who also researches the family tree is English, and our shared ancestors are English, from the Worcestershire region.  Clearly DNA analysis is in its infancy, but meanwhile I'm honored and delighted to assist as best I can.

gday Gillian

I'm greatly interested in joining the project. As stated on my ENGLAND tag. "I'm a 5th Gen Australian with deep English roots directly traceable to an ancestor born at the latest about 1690 (married 1707) but probably earlier. Despite the tyranny of distance: I've been the 'old country' many times, toured the ancestral heartlands, met and now correspond with a sixth cousin, whose branch never left ."

My primary source Lillian Clarke's 1910 Family Chronicles; section 1 Bleckly 's and Springalls has a list  of isolated (possible) ancestors from my traceable ancestor back to the 1500's. I say 'possible' because the spelling of the  surnames is often wildly different - starting with B and ending in Y is really not sufficient to claim them. However,  I would like  to profile the verifiable entries,

Hi Gilly, I clicked on the link in your message but it isn't working. What should I do?
Hello Maree,

Sometimes the link won't work from an email.  I have just added the link onto the comment section on your Profile Page.   See if the link works from there and let me know if it still doesn't work..

-Gilly
Hi Gilly, thank you for adding the link to my profile page. It worked as I found a page with many posts on them for the England project. However, I do not know what I am surposed to do next, in that, I do not know how you actually work with the project and everyone attached to it.
Hello Maree,

Thank you for your message.  One of our England Project Leaders will contact you shortly.

Please sign me up. Most of my ancestors arrived in Australia from England in the mid 1800s. Kent, Sussex, Devonshire, Buckinghamshire & Lincolnshire are of particular interest.
