Upon review of my grandfather's death certificate, I found that it has an error in the name of his mother.  The person who reported his death gave the name of a former wife instead of his birth mother.  What is the best practice as a genealogist when this is found?

Explain it in the biography, just as you did here.  Informants for death certificates frequently get the birth info wrong.  Hopefully, you have a more relevant source to prove his birth mother?

Thank you for your assurance that I recorded it properly.

Yes, I have family knowledge, backed up by United States Federal Census Records showing him as a member of the family.
