A historical inquiry concerning Henry Hudson, his friends, relatives and early life, his connection with the Muscovy company and discovery of Delaware Bay

The citations noted in it are extremely interesting though places listed for this time period have little in common with the revamped categorization I'm seeing for that area.

The sources for his book are very early ones and seem to be as good as any others of historical value.  The writer compares and contrasts and is obviously trying to get things as right as he can.

Place names have changed many times over the years and it's difficult to know how to categorize them sometimes.  Just for example, while working on Greene County, Ohio recently I ran across some early settlers who lived in Fairfield..  Fairfield doesn't exist anymore but combined with neighboring Osborn and is now Fairborn.  Separating the towns for categorization and historical purposes might cause more confusion in the long run so, instead, I added a note in the Fairborn category documenting the two towns and the date they became Fairborn.

You might want to do a little research of the places and document the changes on the category pages for clarification.

Thank-you!  The reason for the post is based on profiles contained in Stow's London Survey and Magna Britannia where the Projects (England and Categorization) appear to just be removing categories from profiles without working to find or create what categories should be on the profile.  https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/672157/category-city-of-london

Regarding what is now Fairborn, isn't WT policy to use their place names during their lifetime instead of ours?  Is categorization becoming a waste of time?
I do use the time accurate place names on the profile itself.  However, for categorization, either Bath Township, Greene County, Ohio or Fairborn, Ohio will allow others to locate their ancestors.

And, no, I don't think categorization is a waste of time.  I use location and cemetery categories all the time to locate people.  For early pioneers, I find that categorizing the land tracts (ex. Borden's Tract in Virginia) also helps locate people as towns are few and properties are specified in the records by trees, rocks, streams, neighbors, etc. that no longer exist.
Trying to understand... If your relative was documented as living in Fairfax County Virginia prior to 1757 when Loudoun County Virginia was created which category do you use if his property is now in Loudoun?
I would categorize in Fairfax County although I would also categorize by township to be more exact.
