Tips for Searching: Zambia

Just a quick note...  I am looking for a Northern Rhodesian (now Zambian) Birth for Peter William Hovell and also the marriage of his parents, about whom I have no information.  Does anyone have any experience in searching Northern Rhodesia.  Slightly related to this are the births, marriage and death records of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland [Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) / Northern Rhodesia (Zambia) /Nyasaland (Malawi)].  I think those may be retained at the National Archives in Zimbabwe.  Just looking for ideas since Family Search has little transcribed searchable information. Anyway, this is just to promote a discussion and perhaps some input from those who are in the know.

One might have a look at the Familysearch catalog entries for Zambia and Zimbabwe, maybe some church or civil registration films are of interest. Also some other material like the book "They came to Northern Rhodesia : being a record of persons who had entered what is now the Territory of (Northern Rhodesia) Zambia today by 31st December 1902

Hi Andrew

Peter Hovell was my father.

Why would you be wanting this information about him and my grandparents?

Intrigued to know?

Kind regards

Greetings Sharon,

Thank you for responding and questioning the need for information.  Your late father was killed in action, and as such he appears on the BSA Police Roll of Honour.  He is listed on the BSA Police website www.bsap.org on the War Roll
Recently all late members of the BSA Police and Police Reserve who were killed in action have been moved onto the WikiTree Platform.   The idea is that we can actually get to know the relatives who they left behind, and also to fill in some of the gaps about who our heroes were.  Your late father has a profile here
Hovell-49.  I would dearly love to receive at least a good photograph of him and would be grateful if family linked up to his profile.
I hope this answers your query.
Andrew
Hi Andrew

That is so interesting and funny how I just stumbled upon this when I was googling my dad's name.

I will send you the information you need next week.  Will dig it up over the weekend.

Kind regards

Sharon
