FTM problems

+3 votes
I bought the Family Tree maker from Mckeive in 2014. I have never been able to join it with My ancestry account. I am not so computer literate. I got so frustrated with the whole thing I abandoned it. Today I tried again to link FTM and My Ancestry account.

It won't link again! I can get into My ancestry account, I have the right email address, It continues to tell me that I Am not using the right log-in for ancestry. I know All the information is right. Then it tells me I must have internet access. I do I am on the internet.

I am so frustrated with this software right now! I did update and get the current version. My log-in that Google had listed worked with FMT...does anyone knows how to work with this?

I only bought this software because I could import All the pictures...I already paid for Legacy...pretty sad paying for something that I can't even use!

Thank You in advance for answers to this question.

I think the 2014 version was the one which Ancestry sold. When Ancestry decided to stop support and Mackiev bought FTM they reprogrammed and improved the synchronisation. You need FTM 2017 to be able to synch.

Thank You for your answer. FTM to update last night I got version 2014.1 I guess that was the problem. the chat person Brandon said that the 2014.1 would NOT go on the internet. so he Now gave me a link to 2017. that is why I was having log-in problems AND I kept getting the message that I was not on the internet.

I don't know why It didn't give me the 2017 upgrade right away instead of giving me the 2014.1?

After Mackiev bought FTM 2014,  they notified  "everyone"  currently using the program that we could buy FTM 2017 at a greatly reduced price  of $29.95.......  I paid for my new version in March of 2017.      Perhaps they'll still honor this price for you too.

Hopefully, they  just let you download a copy of the old FTM 2014 (since you bought it in the past) and didn't CHARGE you for it.

I originally bought My FTM from Mackeiv when ancestry sold it because I wanted to be able to import to Photos. I could never get it to sync though. I got it working because last night they sent me the upgrade for 2014.1 instead of 2017 which is what I needed... I did finally get it to sync though. I spent about 4 hours on it today just trying to get it to sync. I am not sure why they didn't give me 2017, to begin with :(

They DID NOT charge me though.:) I paid full price in 2014.

I just didn't want to depend on subscribing to Ancestry all the time. I would like to get more of My tree on Wikitree. I love Wikitree but I am so challenged on doing the HTML... so, I was thinking that getting Ancestry on My own computer would be easier...Then I can work offline on things. I am hoping that FTM has the sources and pictures... Now, of course, I have to learn that software...:(

Thanks for answering My question! I appreciate the quick replies. Pam

If you are going to upgrade to 2017 then you will have to pay an upgrade fee. The upgrade was offered fairly cheaply to existing users when they first released that version, but I think they increased the upgrade price after the initial discount offer. You can find out more about that and about which version you need for full synch on Mackiev’s website.

I too have made WikiTree my site of choice.   But I use FTM 2017  to keep records that I haven't reviewed or sourced yet..... it keeps me organized.    About once a year,   I pay ancestry.com for a month of research on their site.  But I don't make my ancestry trees public.    When I've researched and sourced a profile,  I post the information to WikiTree.
Peggy, Thanks for the best answer star.
Peggy, I also have FTM 2017 and want to do the same thing putting only a skeleton tree up on Wikitree. My question has to do with splitting a gedcom (due to size) but am I still able to link my DNA results with it? EX: I put up a tree for each grandparent (all deceased) but there is no mention or link to me...then how do I relate my DNA results to the trees I have posted?
