How does a non-pre-1700 certified PM add someone to the Trusted List of a pre-1700 profile? [closed]

I'm pre-1700 certified, and I just requested the profile manager of a pre-1700 ancestress of mine to add me to the trusted list for that profile, but the PM says she can't do it b/c she's not pre-1700 certified herself.

This is a new policy wrinkle to me. How do we get around it??

I am the Manager for Mercy Westcott and never received a request to be added to the trusted list. I have communicated with you several times and that issue never came up.  I would gladly add you if you send me your email address. It sounds like you are talking about someone else from your responses.
Turns out he was confused and was referring to a different profile.
Correct.  A result of trying to work on too many profiles at once, and carrying on multiple email exchanges at the same time.  Profile in question was actually that of Jameson-22, John Jameson [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jameson-22].  Sigh.  Anyway, it's been taken care of.

The profile manager is not new to WikiTree and has been pre-1700 certified since 2014.

Have you followed the usual root of requesting to be added to the trusted list via the profile? Have you tried sending her your email address so that she can add you manually?

If she is still unable to add you, let her know you will contact info @ wikitree for help.

Hmmm, seems odd that she'd have forgotten she's certified!  In any case, problem solved; see my answer below.  Thanks for the response.  I'll close the question at this point.

There does not seem to be much point in her being profile manager of a profile she cannot work on. You could suggest to her that she either applies for certification or relinquishes the profile so that you can take over the manager role.

I'm aware of those options and if necessary will make the suggestion as diplomatically as possible.  I'm just very shy of asking people to relinquish management -- and don't know why she hasn't applied for certification.  Frankly I was hoping there was another option.
Fairly new to Wikitree and trying to learn as I go.  From my understanding if a profile is open, anyone who has signed the honour code can edit that profile.  Am I missing something?  What extra benefit is there to being added to the trusted list other than to be able to complete a merge?
Pip, Thanks for the best answer star.
Christopher, Another option could be to ask her to orphan it temporarily so that you can add yourself and offer to reinstate her as a second profile manager or add her to the trusted list. If she feels comfortable that you will discuss changes and collaborate with her to improve the profile then she may be willing to accept this compromise.
Since the profile is open there is nothing to stop you working on it, so unless you want to do some of the restricted work such as changing LNAB you can go ahead and make changes. It would be courteous to discuss those changes with her before making them. I see that there is a duplicate husband, so a good starting point to helping might be to look at whether those two profiles should be merged.
Thanks, Lynda, that is in fact what we've done -- she orphaned it, I took it over, and in fact she automatically remained on the TL.

It may be that she hadn't actually tried adding me to the TL, as I'd assumed, but was laboring under a mis-impression that she needed the pre-1700 certification to do so.  That assertion on her part is why I posted the question.
Glad you got it sorted out.

Mercy Westcott profile is marked open and not pre 1700
by Dierdre Bell G2G4 (5.0k points)
Yup, I'm aware of the open status, but took the PM at her word that she'd tried and wasn't able to add me to the TL.  That's part of why I was perplexed.

You don't have to be certified to manage the Trusted list.

For example, the project accounts exist to manage their watchlists without being badged to edit their profiles.

Christopher, Since the profile is not a pre-1700 profile there is no reason why the manager could not add you if you made the request. I also believe that editing the trusted list needs no certification even if the profile were pre-1700. as others have mentioned unless you need to change the LNAB there is nothing stopping any WikiTree full member from editing that profile.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. As noted above in my reply to Lynda, it appears -- per several answers/comments above -- that the PM may have been laboring under a misapprehension about needing to be pre-1700 certified before she could add me to the TL.  I assumed she had actually tried to add me, and couldn't; that's why I posted the question.

As of last night she orphaned the profile, I adopted it, she automatically remained on the TL, so it's all been taken care of.
