25 Children! OH MY!

+15 votes

Wanted to share this clipping about my GG grandparents.  They had 25 children & were in newspapers all over the country.  Somewhere I have an article about President Roosevelt coming to the house & having dinner with them (haven't found it yet but will share when I do).  Hope you all enjoy it. By the way, she was 41 at the time - not 47.  That's a typo.  The Fable of the Old Woman in the Shoe a Reality in Wilkesbarre

That poor woman!  She had to have been perpetually pregnant.  Imagine what that did to her body and health.  And trying to feed and clothe 25 kids - yikes!  Awesome article though.

41 when the youngest kid was born, died at 47.
Yes, in a time when she probably didn't have electricity, indoor plumbing - no modern conveniences.  No washing machine & clothes dryer, all sewing by hand & surely couldn't afford store bought ANYTHING.  Before I got her death certificate I use to say I didn't need it because I certain she probably hung herself.  LOL
So true!  I don't think I'd have made it past 5 or 6 kids, if that.  LOL
I'm pretty sure I would have locked hubby out of the house after 5 or 6.  LOL

If only we’d been younger when we married!

Her dad died as a POW in the civil war.  Her mom literally couldn't afford to feed her children.  She & her sister were married off very young.  They married brothers.
Today they'd be trying to make ends meet by being on a reality show on TLC.

Wait. That already happened. History really does repeat itself....
