The US Civil War: War Between the States project is dedicated to those individuals who participated in this conflict in whatever capacity, whether a soldier, spy, or even those who supplied either side during the conflict. It is not necessary that you have an ancestor who fits this description. If you have an interest in this part of American history, you are more than welcome to participate. 

Just post an answer below and I will gladly add you to the project. Go to the project page to see what else you can do to become a member of our project! 

Please request to be added to the Google Group as well as the Google Group for Military and War since this is a sub of that project.

Is there a Native American civil war catagory? Loren Newell is my 2.d great grandfather and i should add him.

I believe there is, yes. Look for the Resource page, it lists all the states and territories that participated.

Yes and no Robin. I am the new leader of Military and War and also trying to ease the work load for the leaders of the sub-projects by awarding badges for new members.

Since both my husband and I have several ancestors who fought during the Civil War - mostly on opposite sides -, I would love to get involved.  Thank you and have a great day!!

I tried to sign up for the civil war project but does not look like I did ?? I added to my tags - when I tried to add it in my category  it showed error

do not know what else to do but I do have family that was in civil war

I would like to join the project. Although my direct family did not arrive in the US until after the war was over, I still have interests in the war, especially The Battle of Gettysburg. My aunt's father-in-law fought there. I have other family members who fought in this war. This is a great place for me to start showing the people from  my family (direct or indirect) who were military.

Hello, I'd like to join the project. My 3rd great grandfather, John Humphrey Van Kirk was a member of the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry and my 3rd great uncle, Jeremiah Van Kirk, was a member of the 25th Wisconsin Infantry.

I have a 2 x g grandfather who fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy in the 1st Regiment, Choctaw Mounted Rifles, CSA.  His name was Alfred Victor.  Where can I get more information about him as the family history is that he was shot at Pea Ridge and carried the bullet in his leg until he died in 1926.  I would like to verify this story.  I have several other relatives that served during the civil war.

Yes, I have a great grandfather and two great great grandfathers that were in the Civil War, and one of them appears to have two brothers killed in the Civil War. My first cousin 3 times removed died as a POW at Andersoville, and as I do research I am finding that I have become very interested in Civil War history.

Researching my Blanton roots, I've found that they fought for the Union from Illinois, while my Herren family fought for the Confederacy from Arkansas, both sides believing they were defending their families, homes, and rights as Americans.

I would like to join the US_Civil_War subgroup and Military and War. I have specialised knowledge in the US Civil War as I have marched with both Co B, 2nd WVI(Reenac) and Co C, 8th WVI(Reenac). I have been in awe of the soldiers of that period since a young age and after reenacting the time, I can bring that awe and experience to honor both sides of the conflict possibly assisting with confusion from paperwork etc.

Have two known Union ancestors, Matheson-1433 who was killed and Mothorn-25 who fought against two of his Confederate first cousins at Vicksburg where they were taken prisoner. Families divided is a topic of interest. Would like to join. Many thanks for facilitating.
