Attachments to surnames

Being new, why are attachments (BDM & other info) are added to a surname when they have nothing to do with the person or country.

Just curious as to what it means.

Im not sure what you mean? Are they added to the surname field or are they in the sources area?

I use BDM's which are an acronym for Births, Deaths, and Marriages in my sources which are a vital to my research. I list them in the sources section. Ive never seen a BDM attached to a surname field before.

Not seeing an example, sometimes people put inappropriate info in the surname field because they are used to their own home system for organizing their family history, and that would eventually be corrected. But obviously without an example I can only speculate.
