Is there going to be a sub-group eventually for Spanish colonies in the Spain Project?

I'm having trouble finding a project home for my Spanish colonials in pre-1820 New Mexico.  I joined the Mexico project but that only covers about 20 years and any ancestors before they moved to New Mexico. Thanks!

Hello Marcie,

The Mexico project includes the Spanish colonial period. There is a category "Nueva Galicia" which Katy Brecht, myself and others have been working to elevate as a sub project to the Mexico project. Perhaps we can do the same for the "Provincia de Nuevo México"

That would be great, Austin.  I need to find a home for my pre-1700 New Mexico ancestors.  What can I do to help?
Hi Marcie,

We're open to any and all suggestions of what you would like to work on in the Spain Project, but, for the sake of ease, we would usually stick to people born in Spain and allow other geographical projects (for example Mexico) to cover those of Spanish descent. That being said, we are not territorial or precious about Spanish profiles. There are always plenty for us to be working on, and if, for example, Mexico wanted to work on profiles of Spanish immigrants to what became Mexico we would be delighted and would be happy to collaborate with them on those family lines.

I hope this answers your question.

Susie :-)
Thanks Susie.  It would probably be easier to work with Mexico because it turns out my Mexican Spanish is much better than my Spanish Spanish. That makes sense since I am from California.
No problem at all. I'm sure Mexico will be glad to have you. Let me know if I can help you with anything else. :-)
