Trying to sort out Gatón de Bierzo and family

Question

Gaton currently has four duplicates for his spouse and one of his daughters, Ermesinda, also has a duplicate.

From what I can gather, there is no concensus for Gaton's parentage; some believe he was the brother of Ordoño, king of Asturias, and some don't.

I understand that if he was the son of Ramiro, his LNAB should probably be Asturias, and if he was not, Bierzo would (probably) be better. If we follow our current standards, that would extend to his descendants.

On the other hand, if we use the patronymics as LNABs (which is against our standards, but would make this set more recognizable), we do not have this problems.

I can’t help with an answer, Isabelle, but I do want to register a short comment as to the LNABs. If the culture made a general use of patronymics like the area where you are now working, would it not violate the “what they were called in that time and place” rule? I think this would apply to various Semitic peoples, and not just to Muslims populations.

I’ve noticed that we have many profiles in Arabic. What is being used, I cannot tell, but it might provide a useful guide if transliterated. Just a thought.
