John M. Simmons possibly had a second family in Texas. Can you help me find out? He had children and disappeared

Can you give us a bit more to go on, Sue? Date and place of birth? Where was his first family located?

Born in Georgia, maybe around 1818.  Listed on Tyler,County Texas Census 1850 with Laban, Penelope and Mary Pugh.  He had children with Mary.  According to DNA, I match a John M. Simmons that has a spouse Hercilla Smyth—?.  I think they might be the same person with two different families.

The John M Simmons located in Texas in 1950 married to Mary is not the same John M Simmons.

Your John was born in Louisiana and living in Mississippi in 1850 with Hercilla and their daughter, Mary Jane.

John M. Simmons [[Simmons-5696|John Simmons]] married to Hercilla Baldridge was born in Louisiana, married in Mississippi in 1848, fathered six children with her between 1849 and 1864.  They were my 2nd great-grandparents.  He died before 1866.  I am still searching for his parents, he’s one of my brick walls.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think he must be part of that group although can’t pinpoint him.  Peggy was baffled, too.  I keep hoping someone will pop up and solve the mystery.

The only Parks/Youngblood marriage I know of is my grandparents, James Allen Parks and Mary Florence Youngblood.  My grandmother was the granddaughter of Hercilla Simmons.

Yes that is where my DNA connection comes in to your Dad. I will have to look back and see which Simmons married a Youngblood.  I think there were two.  We have a picture of John Simmons ,we think.  My cousin Oscar believed it to be.

My grandmother’s other grandmother was named Emeline Simmons.  She was born in Georgia and married Jacob Reese Youngblood.  She was the daughter of a man named Solomon Simmons, no known connection to the family of John M. Simmons.  Emeline’s siblings seem to have stayed in Georgia and Alabama.

Yes, those are my other Simmons ancestors.  My great-grandfather’s wife was a Simmons and his mother was a Simmons but if there’s any connection it was back in the 1700’s.

My ancestor, John Simmons, was only in Texas from about 1850 until the war started.  Several of his children were born in Mississippi. He did not return after the war.  My great grandfather Asa Simmons was born in Texas.  His mother Mary Pugh Simmons lived with her mother Patience Parker Pugh in Jacksonville, Texas.

Several on-line tres, although undocumented, say that your John Simmons was born in Georgia about 1830, so if that’s the case he might be connected to Emeline Simmons.
