Roman von Ungern-Sternberg, born to a family of Baltic German nobility, and notable as a real-life supervillain, is now connected to the Tree.
Known as the "Mad Baron" to his enemies and to his Mongolian subjects as "Great Star Mountain" (and to himself as "the incarnated God of War and Khan of grateful Mongolia"), Ungern-Sternberg was an general in the Russian Civil War who led a vicious campaign against Bolsheviks, Marxists, Jews, and anyone else he had a problem with. He was a fanatical adherent to a bloody sect of Tantric Buddhism that resulted in he and his followers conquering Mongolia and invading Siberia in his quest to reinstate the empire of Genghis Khan. Obsessed with mysticism and prone to rages, Ungern-Sternberg kept wolves in his house and executed people he considered feeble so that they could be reincarnated in stronger bodies.
He was captured and executed in 1921 by the Communists but his legend lives on as an example of how truth can truly be stranger than fiction.
