Source pages do not appear to export; does this mean that they cannot be imported

Yes you are right Chris; I had footnotes (references??) under the ==Sources== heading, but no source pages.  (Apologies.  I had been away for a month without internet, and got rusty on what I was doing.)  I am trying to generate profiles programmatically from my database.  Obviously sources that apply to many people are better as source pages rather than being repeated as footnotes on every person's page. (I have allowed for the same source being used for multiple events in a persons life with the ibids.)  I have now added a test source page, http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Cameron_Bible.  I have manually linked it from http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/White-9750, in parallel with the footnote containing the same material.  But I do not see a link to Harry John White on the source page.  This seems to apply to your example too; links to persons are only in the wikitext.  Nor do I see the source page in a GEDCOM export.  I would like to add source pages to my GEDCOM for import to WikiTree, but without an example in the export, I cannot test this.  Should I conclude that I cannot import source pages, and stick with using footnotes instead?

Thanks for your patience,

David

Hi David,

Correct. On import we don't automatically create free-space profiles for sources. Instead, we integrate each source into the person's profile. That is duplicative. One source might be used 100 times in a gedcom, but we put it on 100 person profiles instead of creating one free-space profile and linking to it 100 times.

On export, we don't currently include free-space profiles. We should and that's on the to-do list, but it wouldn't do most gedcom users much good since other systems wouldn't know what to do with them.
