John Talbot from Ranton, Staffordshire

I would appreciate another set of eyes to look at John Talbot’s profile especially related to the Research Note. His baptism places him 7 years older than his marriage certificate states he was.  Anyone with access to Ranton, Staffordshire records who would be willing to see what they can find would be appreciated.

saw nothing helpful.
Have you viewed the actual baptism record or just a transcription? It may have been a late baptism and include a note of the actual birth date.
Ages didn't matter so long as they were over 21.  Given he was old enough to be her father, it's not surprising if they fibbed to narrow the gap.  People often did.

The 1714 baptism date seems to fit with those of his brothers and sisters. There is not much room to fit him in there with a 1721 birth.  It is also likely that being named John would make him the first son of John, his father.

Have you seen an image of the marriage license ? The ages are not always accurate on these - it might say "35 years and upwards" .  They may have opted for marriage by license rather than banns because of the age difference between them. Maybe somebody disapproved ?

I’ve only seen transcripts as the images are either behind a paywall or not available.  If anyone has access to Find my past and can view the image for the marriage I’d appreciate it.
I looked at the parish register for the marriage on FindMyPast and the ages aren't listed. I'm struggling to find the original of the Licence as the link from familysearch to FMP for that one is broken. I'll have a dig and see what I can find.
