Hi Sheryl, I know it can be confusing when you first get started doing anything on G2G. There are three different options when responding to a post, and although they seem to all do similar things, they are technically different. This is my understanding of the different ways to respond to a post:
- ANSWER: This can only be done one way. Go to the very top of the page, read the original post [the "Question"] by Eowyn. At the end of her post just after her signature line, you'll see options to either Answer or Comment. Select "answer" from there. Eowyn will be notified that there is a new Answer to the Question, which she can then respond to by assigning a bib number and adding to the list of Source-a-thon participants.
- COMMENT: This is an option for responding to either an original question [at the top of the page] or to one of the answers to the original question. A Comment is NOT an Answer!
- REPLY: This creates a response to any other comment or reply. A Reply is also NOT an Answer!
Especially for a Question that will get as many responses of all different types as this one, and since Eowyn is so very active all over G2G and WikiTree, an Answer allows her to focus on making sure she accomplishes the purpose of the original Question, which is to assign a bib number [or provide additional instructions] to everyone who wants to participate. Anything short of an Answer can cause the request to get lost in the overwhelming chatter of all the other responses.
I hope that helps clarify things!
