848 Error in template parameters - FAG Link

+1 vote

In the recent Data Doctors Suggestions - 848 Error in template parameters - indicates some errors as follows:

param 1-Memorial number: not a number

These links do connect to the correct grave. Should they be marked as false errors or should the names be removed from the template?

I would like to suggest that it be marked as a false error as on some profiles there are numerous links to FAG. By having a name next to a link, it makes it clear to which person's memorial it refers to.

To make it a valid template usage It could be entered as

In general:

{{FINDAGRAVE|memorial-id}} name

That way you solve the suggestion while keeping the name.

I agree.  It is best to fix the Find A Grave link to conform.
Thanks Jan for giving a good solution to my question. Will make sure I do it that way in future.
We must also be including the |sameas=no  at the end of the template for the 'other' family member FAG links

You are right Linda, I was just focusing on this specific issue.

The complete help for the FindAGrave template can be found here.

And there are reasons to use only the number.

  • Easier for compouter to parse the ID
  • Name on FindAGrave can change
  • FindAGrave might change the URL again in the future and it wouldn't be valid then.
