Add Gedcom on my existing tree on WIKI.

Is there a way I can save my ancestry.com tree to a gedcom and download it to my existing tree in WIKI?

To download your tree from Ancestry to a gedcom go into Settings and follow the download instructions. To upload the subsequent gedcom to Wikitree you need to use the gedcompare process to ensure that you do not create duplicate profiles.

I knew how to create a gedcom from Ancestry. But not how to upload it to Wiki.. I have over 15,000 names in my tree.. will this be a problem to Wiki? Or is there something I should do?

Yes, it could be a problem. You cannot upload a gedcom containing more than 5,000 individuals. I strongly suggest you upload a small gedcom, perhaps 50-100 people, to see how the process works. You do need to use the gedcompare process, which means you need to review each individual before that person is imported to WikiTree and make sure that it contains sources and does not create a duplicate profile. You will be importing your tree one person at a time.

Shirley is on target, as usual. I have a family file of over 67,000 names and there’s no way I’d even think about uploading that much even if I could. Of course, much of what I have in my family file is already on WikiTree. I have found it better to do very small uploads, as small as 20 profiles at a time. Even then, it’s  still a lot of work cleaning up after the import and doing all the sourcing. I’ve learned that doing it the WikiTree way a little bit at a time helps me to get it before moving on the bigger and better WikiTree things.
