One Name Studies Project: request your Name Study here! [closed]

Question

Would you like to start a Name Study for a surname?  Sign up below (answer, don't comment) and Ros will create the page for you and add you as the manager.  If you do not already have it, you will be awarded the One Name Studies Project Member badge.

The three requirements are:
1) You have been on WikiTree for 30 days
2) You have signed the Honor Code
3) You have made 100 or more contributions

Please note when requesting redirects to variants: There can only be three spellings of the surname per Study, and one of them must be the name itself (such as Haywood, Heywood, and Haywud for the Haywood Name Study).  This limit is posed due to limitations of the creation form plus lack of manpower.

Hi Nararro,

Elisha is my 2nd  great grandfather.   I am not exactly sure of his birthrate.  Somewhere between 1825 and 1830.   Census records indicate he lived in Bristol, Ontario, New York, USA until 1840.  The solid evidence I have is that he married Eunice Harroun in 1857 at Darlington, Wisconsin, USA.  He had 6 children all born in Brodhead, Green County, Wisconsin.  He died in 1878 in Brodhead.   I have searched everywhere for more information in his early life and his parents with no luck.   Does any of this ring a bell to you?  Thanks for your time. :)

Well heck I am 40 minutes from Darlington - I could go see - I know
they have a genealogy group there too - wow I will try and find time
this weekend to sort crap and
find my Hurlburt lines going up and see if he is connected to ours -
do not think ours came in that way at all but may have branched off
this way or that but from the outside I have the proximity - I work in
Shullsburg in Layfayette County which is one county over from Green so
I can go look at graves or get birth and death certificate copies etc
in person if I get time - will see if that group is still going - they
were opening a place in Darlington I read an article about it - my
side of the family is not from around here but my husband's is so I
never joined yet

A One Name Study is not for a particular ancestor.  It's studying one surname.  Did you get a chance to look at the One Name Studies Project page that I linked in my answer?

Hi. I have been here for a month now. I am afraid I jumped the gun again and converted my project to a study and now I see Ros was supposed to do that. Would you give me some guidance and let me know what needs to be done from here. I haven’t finished following the guideline for writing the profile so it is incomplete as of now. It is for Helderman Halderman Halterman Hilderman Halteman plus the two n versions of the names. My project is pertaining to Swiss Mennonites and Quakers that immigrated due to religious persecution. I don’t know how many of them are still plain people, but I would like to try to sort out the family lines by dna.

Did you see the three requirements in the original post?  One of them was that you had to be on WikiTree for a minimum of 30 days (so you get familiar with WikiTree), so you are not eligible yet, I'm afraid.

I would like to start a One Name Study for KEIL. 

Since it is a somewhat common surname at least in Europe, I'd like to initially not include any variant spellings to try to focus on the surname that is my own. If this is not advised and I'd be better off ultimately including variants such as Kiel, Kuhl,etc., please let me know

 Also, if variants cannot be added later, please let me know that as well as then I would like to provide a more comprehensive list of variants to include in the original study.

I would like to start a One Name Study for the German surname Kühner (sometimes spelled Kuhner - without the umlaut) and its anglicized variants Keener (which already has a On Name Study), Kenner, and Kiener (possibly adding others in the future). Note that Keener (and possibly other variants) is also a fairly common English or Irish surname, but I'd prefer to limit this study to the German variants if possible.

As you noted, there is already a Keener Name Study (so you cannot really have Keener as a variant).  Did you also notice that the Keener Name Study already has Kuhner as one of its variants?

Please contact the PM of the Keener Name Study to work out whether you need a separate study or simply a freespace page which links into his Study.

Um...I checked the changelog for the Grant Name Study and it doesn't look like you ever 'had' it.  It was created by Geoff Grant (the current PM) in 2014, and he is still active.  You were never the PM, and are not even on the Trusted List.  You changed the start date and location yesterday.  I am confused.

I changed the surname tags. Mr. Geoff had the template ones still listed. (Smith, smyth, smythe). It wasn't the space page, the actual catergory had been emptied, save for his header. The other project I manage isnt a ons.

Smith, Smyth, and Smythe are not tags from a template.  They were put in there specifically by somebody else earlier this year. I am still confused.  The category page was last changed in February 2018, and not by you.  Which page are you talking about? Can you give me a link to this category page which had been emptied?  The one I am looking at is well full.

Yes, the connected category is filled with some of my branch from the trunk line descendant, now. I just touched base with Geoff and he has added me officially as a project manager. It seems he simply did not have the time to do as much as he had hoped.

The only new thing I noticed is that someone added a regional subproject for Grant's in Hampshire, England. Perhaps that was part of the category change?

The regional subcategory (not subproject) was there from the beginning in 2014. It is good to have these geographical subcategories, as the Study will be worldwide.
