Reminder: Quick credit entry

I had forgotten about this, so I wanted to remind everyone else.

If you want to note when you create or edit a profile this is a quick and easy way to do it.  Simply enter four tildas in the text section of the profile.  I put them at the end of the Sources section:  ~~~~

The four tildas convert to your WikiTree ID number and today's time and date.  As an example, "Cooper-1 19:10, 20 September 2018 (UTC)"

Very nice way to keep track to which Smith profiles I have already added Sources, but you can use it for any creations or edits.

Thanks for the reminder.  Very useful.

Thanks Kitty.smiley..... for me this is TRAINING,  not just a reminder.   (I keep saying I have a lot more to learn!)   Will definitely start using this too.yes

Oh, nice bit of info there. Is there a help file on all the little ‘codes’ you can enter?

Most of my profiles were new ones, but now I can show the dates I make additions/changes on them.

Now, where’s the tutorial on all the acronyms used here? There are a lot I’m not familiar with cheeky

Kitty, I'm sure I'm being obtuse here, so feel free to tell me so!  smiley

I can't quite understand how this is better than checking the Changes tab.  The Change list already has the date, time, and whodunnit, plus a link to what the edit was.  Since you have to come to the page either way, isn't it easier to just click the Changes tab than scroll to the bottom?  Plus, you can find out what the last change was.

Having the time on your bar on your computer screen is convenient because you can look at it, while you're typing and know what time it is.  If you have to click on the changes tab, you have to leave where you are and go and search for it.  Imagine, you come to the == Research notes == and someone has left a message that they looked but could not find a source.  When did this happen?  If you're 3 monitor lengths down because it is a long bio - you have to scroll up (action 1), then click on changes (action 2) then scroll down looking for the change (action 3), but wait, you don't know what change it was, so you have to click on the first change and then go back, change by change.

If the person wrote, "Can't find a source at this time ~~~~" you'll see:

"Can't find a source at this time 00:23 - 22 September 2018 SJ Baty."

Any time you're posting to a profile and you want to leave "your mark" + a date stamp, this is what you want, 4 tildes: ~~~~

Also very useful for if you're 1/2 way through a bio and you get called away.

... and then Reverend Smith moved to Missouri.  He and his family can be seen on the 1880 census[13].  ~~~~ Called away, will resume within 7 days.

Everyone reading can see that you're working the bio and you'll be back in a week to finish it.
True, the changes tab is invaluable, but If there are a lot of edits to a profile, it makes it easier to find if I have already looked at a particular profile.  This is less detailed and just a quick, keyboard entry.  I find it useful too.
Thank you both, things I hadn't thought of.  Seems particularly helpful at marking incomplete work or research, especially if multiple people are working on that profile.  What I do is keep a tab open to the place and profile, until I'm ready to work on it again, but that has a different kind of flaw.  I keep getting to over 400 tabs, and browsers hate that!

Gah! I posted my reply above an hour ago from my phone and did not back out of this thread. When trying to increase screen view with my fingers, I accidentally down voted ! Is there a way to undo that. There is no up arrow to upvote now. crying

If you accidentally enter a down vote, just click on the Dow button again to change it back to the previous state.
Thank you!
