Military or other records for Patrick M. Golden (d. 1876, Little Bighorn)

Question

Does anyone have a subscription to Fold3 or another source of information for Pvt. Patrick M. Golden (b. 1849, Sligo, Ireland), who died on June 26, 1876 by a gunshot wound at Little Bighorn? He enlisted in Company D of the 7th US Cavalry on January 22, 1872 [source: http://www.friendslittlebighorn.com/7thUSCavalry1876.pdf]

According to family lore and an 1870 census record, he had a wife and child in Massachusetts. I am hoping to find pension records with information about his parentage, immigration, dependents, etc. I did not find anything in the United States General Index to Pension Files, 1861-1934 at FamilySearch.

A different Patrick Golden from Sligo (1836-1872), won a Medal of Honor.

There are no matches on Fold3.  I searched for Patrick Golden 1849-1876. If I did it wrong let me know.  Most entries for just Patrick Golden were Civil War.

I don't think the Patrick Golden in the 1870 Census in Boston with Marge and James is the right guy.  First, his date of birth is 1838, and second, he is still living with Margaret, James, and other children in 1910.  He was a painter, graduating to owning a sign shop.

Lucy, you could be right, although the census record gives Patrick Golden an estimated birth year of 1848-1849. (He was 21 in the 1870 census.) One inconsistency is that the occupation in the census is listed as Painter (house) and in the military records as Slater.

I found a marriage record and later census records that gave Patrick a birth date of 1838.  Perhaps there were two Patrick Goldens in Boston who were painters.  It seems a fairly common name. I was looking on Ancestry.  Do you have a subscription?

I do have an Ancestry subscription. I'm sure there were lots of Patrick Goldens in Boston. I'll start putting the information I have onto a WikiTree page. Thank you for your help.
