I merged an Elizabeth unknown (196393) into a Elizabeth Howes (1556) linked to the wrong husband

I need help:  Really new at Wikitree and made a mistake.  I merged, [unknown 196393] into [Howes 1556].  [Unknown 196393] was the wife of Edmund Fish 530.  She should remain [unknown 196393].  [Elizabeth Howes  Fish 1556] should be the wife of [Edmund Fish] who is not yet entered into Wikitree, he is the son of [Edmund Fish 530] and [Elizabeth unknown 196393].

I hope someone can help me straighten this out --sorry, I know I really messed up by not reviewing all my family data before starting to enter it.

Perhaps you could go ahead and enter that son, then move her to him - ok so once you crate Edmund Jr you take and put his sources in and save him, then go to his profile page on the right where the tab says (private view) and then click on the father - the original Edmund and it will go to his profile - hit the edit tab and scroll down to where you see on the right where it says spouses and you will see under a little add/remove spouse link - click on that - of course first write down the wiki id for her so she does not get lost - then remove her and if you have that wife enter her instead

then save and go back to Jr there and scroll down a tiny bit and you see that on the left it will be a [spouse?] link and you click that and put her back in using the wiki id

Navarro is right on track for how to fix it.  The one thing that cannot be done here is to "unmerge".  Once a merge has been completed, it is a done deal.  You will have to add a new profile for the wife of the elder Edmund and, if any information in the merged profile, now the wife of the younger Edmund, is about the older one then you'll have to make the changes to the biographies of both to set things right.

Sorry you had this badventure but don't despair - we all do some bad things - without mistakes there would be no way to learn.  You did the right thing, coming here to ask - hope to see you back here often!
Thanks for the encouragement--
Thank-you.  I really appreciate the instruction.  Will proceed carefully.  I hate having to do the same work twice because I got it wrong the first time.  I am glad the fix is easier than I imagined it would be.

Hi Virginia! Welcome to WikiTree!  I think everything is fixable.  I'm going to suggest that you add a tag to your question: merge  Then maybe an Arborist or someone with lots of experience with merges will notice and reply.  Do you know what i mean about adding a tag?

I knew what a tag was, and arborist was already there (don't know how it got there) just didn't know how to tag a message, but after your suggestion I figured it out. Thanks for the suggestion--I will remember it for next time.
quick learner looks like - you will be fine - we all do stupid things here sometimes - it is ok, we help one another fix it and go on - you will have lots of fun at Wikitree
