Hi Everyone,

I would really appreciate some help finding the parents of Joseph Blundell Convict to Australia in 1817.  I have searched the Old Bailey records for joseph in case there was a lead there, that was where he was tried.  As I don't have subs. to any paid sites I am limited

Joseph Blunder, Blundell or Blunden was born in 1799 it is thought in London, England. he was shipped out on the Morely in 1816 arriving 1817.

There's not a lot to go on.  I can't find his death record on New.South Wales BMD and have got much information from Australian Royalty website.

Hope someone can help, thanks in anticipation.

Hi Mary , there is a death entry in the BDM for a Joseph Blunder aged 48, in 1852 , no parents mentioned , so not much help there.No. is 956/1852 V1852956 38B if you would like to check. The age is about 5 years out but it is most likely him.

Hi Mary,

I have Joseph Blundell / Blunder death on 2nd April, 1852 in Windsor, New South Wales. and buried at Saint Thomas Cemetery Row 9 Plot 2 Sackville Reach, New South Wales. He is in the same plot as his wife, Jane Elkins Blundell. They were married on 4th Feb, 1834 at Sackville Reach.

I have Joseph as born on 25 Aug 1800 in Liverpool, London, England

I believe his father is William Blundell and Rachel Carr and siblings Rachel, Richard, Alice, Cathatine or Catherine, William, Margaret and John.

Joseph was tried and sentenced to death for highway robbery in Middlesex April 1816 which was commuted to life imprisonment and imprisoned on the hulk Bellerophon in the Woolwich harbour Kent England 16 Oct 1816.

Some of this information is taken from Alan Pearman site UK on My Heritage family tree, so I cannot guarantee the information is 100% correct but have confidence it is.

Thank you Phil, I think the Joseph Blundell I'm looking for was born in London not Liverpool, though it is possible he came to London, but I haven't found any likely births on familysearch.org.

I do appreciate your time and help though.

wow bit of a coincidence if it isn't the same guy

Hi Mary,

I found this on Digital Panopticon - is it your man?

https://www.digitalpanopticon.org/life?id=obpt18160403-17-defend221

It doesn't give his parents, but it might give you some more information re timeline, and access to free documents? Also, have you tried your local library? Sometimes you can get free access to sites through them? And watch out for free weekends - there was one a while back for a paid site and I got heaps on information for free that I would have otherwise had to pay for!
