Who were the parents of Robert Newell, of Saybrook, CT. Revolutionary War soldier?

Robert Newell of Saybrook, CT is my great, great, great grandfather who married Lydia Barker in 1790 in the Greeneville, NY Presbyterian church.  they lived in Stamford, / Harpersfield NY. He died in 1831.  He and Lydia are buried in the Old cemetery , Stamford, NY.  I know that Lydia's mother was Esther Russell.  Robert Newell was a Revolutionary War soldier. I do not know anything about the Newell family before Robert.

 

Recently I visited Durham, Greene county, NY where I found the sign for an inn run by John Newell, who was a Capt. in the Revolutionary War, but I am not able to connect them. Any information is appreciated.

Robert Newell b. abt 1763,  and his wife Lydia Barker had a son Russel who was married to Harriet ??.  she died age age 26 and he did not remarry.  In Russel's will he left the bulk of his estate to his granddaughter, Helen Rogers (also Hellen Rodgers) . Do you know anything about this granddaughter and who the child of Russel and Harriet might be?

Capt. John Newell was born 13 Jan 1753 in Southington, CT and died 28 Jan 1826 in Durham, NY.  He married Sybil Andrus (Andrews) 23 Feb 1775 in Southington, CT. He served in the Revolutionary War and he was my 5th great grandfather.  I have him well sourced in my family tree on Ancestry
