Seems unlikely that parents will ever be found. He is just called Ketel Kalf. don't think Norway is a good LNAB.

He's known as Ketil Kalv in current Norwegian. It seems that the original spelling was Ketil Kálf.

Kalf (or Kálf) or Kalv is what I would use.

(Naming him unknown for lack of patronymic would be the only other option, but IMO that'd be beyond unreasonable in cases such as this)

I'd go with Kálf.  As I think R was implying, there's little chance you're going to find anything better.  Then add in the bio that it isn't really a last name.  Someone should be embarrassed for adding Norway.

Haha, I get notifications of all the modifications to the Norway "family" as a Norway tag follower. I never looked into it enough to see if it was a legit name or not. Calling people by their place of origin isn't new, but most of us have used them as nicknames, not proper names.

Edit to add: Oh yeah--I'd go with Kálf, too. The standard practice is to name them as they were named at the time.
