Adin Baber, the noted historian claims in his book that Nancy Hanks, mother of Abraham Lincoln, parents were Abraham Hanks and Sarah Elizabeth (Harper) Hanks. However on Wikitree there is another Nancy Hanks, mother of Abraham Lincoln, whose parents were James Hanks & Lucinda R. (Shipley) Hanks. I know that there currently is  no difinitive answer, but I would like to add her to my Abraham & Sarah Hanks. OK?

No! All four parents you mention have been disproved.

Hoping this is common knowledge by now-- I'm adding this comment only because this thread came up when I googled Adin Baber, and I'd hate for people to get the wrong idea.

It's best to consult first with the Manager of the Presidents' Project as these profiles are protected under this project :.

I am one of the profile managers for Nancy Hanks Lincoln.  Where is Adin Baber's proof and source?  Would you add his source here so that I may research it?

Adin Baber, a noted historian, wrote the following books regarding Nancy Hanks:

"Nancy Hanks of Undstiguished Families; a genealogical, biographical, and historical study of the Mother of Abraham Lincoln."

"The Hanks Family Legacy."

"Nancy Hanks, Destined Mother of a President."
Thank you.  I will be heading to Ft Wayne IN this weekend and will stop at the library there.  Mary

The mother, Nancy Hanks was a house maid in a famers house in Rutherford County, N. C.  The farmer's wife demanded that the girl be sent away.  The farmer made a sizeable donation to Mr. Lincoln, a logger, to pack his bags and pick the unwed woman and mother to be and to go somewhere.  Mr. Hanks and the now new bride went to Ill. as a pioneer.  Remember that the "winner" of the war write the history and Mr. Lincoln had two very sly secretaries with the history.

Hi George. That is very interesting. Do you happen to have any sources for your information?  I look forward to your response. Thank you.
Flagging because there is not one iota of truth in this "answer." There are no sources, because it is never a good idea to put libelous, unfounded slurs in print. Don't believe for a minute that other southerners agree with any of this.
