Shared Photo: take about 1900 after getting to Arkansas

Picture taken about 1900 just shortly after they reach Arkansas, from Big Stone Gap Virginia  which they traveled with a wagon train.The man in the wagon is James Jesse Hobbs, little boy is his son Palmer Hobbs,the lady sitting is Mary Matilda Gates Hobbs his wife and the young lady is his daughter Iza(lLiza) Hobbs lyons his daughter who married Sam Lyons, Jesse and Mary lost a son on the way, his name was Charlie he drown while crossing a river, he was buried on the way. They had one more son Clarence not pictured here . I am his 2nd grand niece through Shelby Hobbs.

That would have been a very difficult journey and yet you can almost feel that sigh of relief that the worst has gone by.  Though, I think the hurt of the  loss of a child would never mend in the hearts of the parents.

The artist/photographer did a fabulous job on the color of the photo.  What a wonderful piece of your history you have shared with us - thank you.

Your story is filled with wonder and sadness. Wonder that they arrived safely in Arkansas after traveling by wagon.

I cannot imagine their pain - losing their son and having to bury him along the way. I have lost a son, but he is buried close to me. They may never have a chance to visit his grave. That is so sad.

The colors in the picture are awesome.
