Death certificate from Iowa (1902)?

Any have experience getting a death certificate from a County Recorder in Iowa?  I'm researching a relative born 1826 in Ireland, died 1902 in Independence IA.  The purpose of the request is strictly for research.  Will the County Recorder fulfill this type of request?  Do I need special documentation?

I don't know for sure for Iowa but in other states I've ordered from, you order from the Secretary of State, usually the archives office.

Try doing a google for ordering an Iowa death certificate.  The site will probably take you to where you order a modern one and on that page you will probably see a link for older certificates from the archive department.

Let us know how it turns out!
