Scrolling Issues When Editing Profiles on iOS Devices

I use my iPad a lot when editing profiles, and I keep having this issue where scrolling up or down (obviously using my finger) suddenly stops working. Basically, the edit window won't scroll up or down, but instead appears to quickly judder up and down, flashing like a bad 8mm film. The only way I've found to get it to behave is if I can somehow reach a different edit window (like "Explain your changes") and click on that, after which it works for a while. I've had some tense moments where I've done a bunch of edits, and am unable to reach the "Save Changes" button.

It may be an iOS issue, as I've seen it on both my iPad and iPod, both of which are running iOS 11.1.4. Wondering if anyone else is having this problem, or if there's a known solution.

Thanks for reporting this, Chip.

Another user sent me a video of this happening on their iPad, so it's not just you and it probably is an iOS issue.

There isn't a fix at this time, but it is on the list of bugs to fix.

I'm glad I'm not alone smiley

I may try installing OS 12 soon, and will report back with whatever the results are.

Also, I don't know if this is related, but sometimes a slightly different scrolling problem happens on my desktop, and only in these edit windows. The mouse scroll wheel will suddenly completely stop responding, but it continues to work in other browser tabs. Fortunately, in this case, the arrow keys on the keyboard, and the elevator controls still work.

I was a software engineer for 35 years, so bugs make me feel right at home. wink

Chip, I was the other user Jamie mentioned.

I sometimes can fix it by typing a bunch of spaces into the bio, and then scrolling up and down. It fixes it about 10% of the time, but it’s better than nothing!

I've recently upgraded my iPad to iOS 12.0.1. The good news is that the "juddering" scroll problem appears to be gone. However, a new problem seems to have cropped up: Sometimes the cursor disappears, making it impossible to select an edit position. I believe this occurs more often when switching between apps or browser tabs. As with the "juddering" issue, I've found that selecting a different edit window on the profile page (e.g., "Explain your changes"), and then returning to the main edit window, seems to (temporarily?) cure the problem.

One other weird issue I've noticed that may be new: sometimes when trying to place the cursor for editing, the page will quickly scroll up to the top.

IMO these new problems, though annoying, are not as bad as the "juddering" scroll issue. I noticed that there is already another iOS update. Something to try later.

I updated my iPad to iOS 12.3.1 last week. I've been doing a lot of editing this past week and have not seen any more disappearing cursor issues. Things seem pretty solid at this point.
