Hi all :)  trying to find Sanderson-1532 in the 1861 census.

B.  1833, she is alive and a widow in 1861,  probably still going by her married name "Emma Davey",  middle name starts with T.  Her two small children are at the homes of relatives in the night of the census.

Thx in advance :)

Hi Dave

I think found her living with her in-laws in 1861.  Let me take you on the journey i went through to decide it could actually be her.

First of all, in 1861 we have her 3 year old son living with his grandpa Reuben Sanderson in Lincolnshire.  On that census, baby Thomas William Davey's birthplace is shown as Sheffield.

When Emma Sanderson married William Davey, his father's name was given as Joseph (spelled wrong, but we know how easy it is to misspell Jopesh/Jospeh/Joseph).

If Emma is not staying with her father and stepmother in 1861, odds are she is with her in-laws or a sibling or an aunt or uncle, possibly on the Scarborough side.

If her son really was born in Sheffield, that probably meant William Davey was working in Sheffield, and there would possibly be ties that would keep Emma there.

There is a Joseph Davey, bricklayer, living in Sheffield in 1861 with a widowed daughter-in-law aged 27 named Emma.  Emma is enumerated as being born in Spilsby, Lincolnshire.

Here is the link in Ancestry: https://www.ancestry.ca/interactive/8767/WRYRG9_3492_3495-0313?pid=11585422&

Now i will try to force FamilySearch to cough up the same record.

Some things you could do to prove or disprove this hypothesis:

You could obtain the civic marriage registration document for Emma and William.  As well as confirming William's father's name, it should list Joseph's occupation.

There is a BMD registry entry for a Thomas William Davey born in Sheffield in the last quarter of 1857.  It might be useful to see who are the parents of that child.

Cheers

I know you have referenced Emma's christening, but here is the link from FamilySearch in case you want to include it in your bio;

"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J3Q1-238 : 11 February 2018, Emma Thomasin Sanderson, 29 Dec 1833); citing , index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 508,044.

Here is Emma with her parents and sibs in 1841:

"England and Wales Census, 1841," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQ15-DC5 : 13 December 2017), Emma Sanderson in household of Reuben Sanderson, Hundleby, Lincolnshire, England; from "1841 England, Scotland and Wales census," database and images, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : n.d.); citing PRO HO 107, The National Archives, Kew, Surrey.

Here is Walter Harry Davey's christening:

"England, Lincolnshire, Parish Registers, 1538-1990," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QL1P-RL7D : 16 March 2018), Emma Thomason Davey in entry for Walter Harry Davey, 04 May 1856; citing Baptism, 04 May 1856, Hundleby, Lincolnshire, England, United Kingdom, Lincolnshire Record Office, Lincoln; FHL microfilm 1,541,985.

NOTE THAT THIS TRANSCRIPTION SAYS 'EMMA', NOT 'SUSANNA'.

Here's Emma's marriage to George Pidd:

"England and Wales Marriage Registration Index, 1837-2005," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2DVD-FGY : 13 December 2014), Emma Thompson Davey, 1863; from “England & Wales Marriages, 1837-2005,” database, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : 2012); citing 1863, quarter 2, vol. 9D, p. 289, Hull, Yorkshire, England, General Register Office, Southport, England.

Emma's father-in-law Joseph Davey is from Althorpe, Lincs.  You have already identified that Emma's older son went to live with his uncle John Davey b approx 1826 in Keadby.  In 1851, William Davey born in Althorpe is enumerated as a brother to that same John Davey.  Looks promising for Joseph and his wife Sarah (possibly nee Lambert) being the parents of brothers William and John Davey.  There is an 1841 Census that puts William at home with Joseph and Sarah in Althorpe.

Possibly this is Reuben's second marriage after the death of Emma's mother Sarah Scarborough:

"England Marriages, 1538–1973 ," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NKQH-GWY : 10 February 2018), Reuben Sanderson and Mary Anne Hutson, 19 Feb 1846; citing Hundleby, Lincoln, England, reference , index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 1541985 IT 4.

Well done, Shirlea!
Thank you Shirlea :)  that is fantastic!  I  will check it all and add everything!
to Pip: Thanks, cousin!

to Dave: you are most welcome!

The very useful GRO birth (shows the mother's maiden name before 1911) and death indexes online:

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp

shows

DAVEY, THOMAS  WILLIAM  mother's maiden name SANDERSON  GRO Reference: 1857  D Quarter in SHEFFIELD  Volume 09C  Page 327

Thanks Jo!  That confirms :)

Hi Dave,

I don't know if you can access that Ancestry link or if you have found it on Family Search, but I think I've found her 1861 Census link.  I've also included some other links that I've found, the last of which (the 1851 Census) I'm not sure is her but has the right name, birthplace (Hundleby, Lincolnshire), and estimated birthdate (the census has her as a servant for another family at age 17).  Because of the character limit I'll list this last one in the comments.

*"England and Wales Census, 1861," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7DY-756 : 11 December 2017), Emma Davey in household of William Davey, Lound, Suffolk, England; from "1861 England, Scotland and Wales census," database and images, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : n.d.); citing PRO RG 9, The National Archives, Kew, Surrey.

*"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J3Q1-238 : 11 February 2018, Emma Thomasin Sanderson, 29 Dec 1833); citing , index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 508,044.

*"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N6C2-J21 : 10 February 2018, Emma Sanderson in entry for Francis Brunyee Pidd, ); citing item 1 p 11, index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 1,450,398.

*"England and Wales Census, 1841," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQ15-DC5 : 13 December 2017), Emma Sanderson in household of Reuben Sanderson, Hundleby, Lincolnshire, England; from "1841 England, Scotland and Wales census," database and images, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : n.d.); citing PRO HO 107, The National Archives, Kew, Surrey.

*"England and Wales Census, 1871", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KZLP-W5X : 11 December 2017), Emma Thomason Pidd in entry for George Pidd, 1871.

*"England, Lincolnshire, Parish Registers, 1538-1990," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QL1P-776F : 16 March 2018), Emma Pidd in entry for Annie Sanderson Pidd, 03 Jul 1864; citing Baptism, 03 Jul 1864, Hundleby, Lincolnshire, England, United Kingdom, Lincolnshire Record Office, Lincoln; FHL microfilm 1,541,985.

Here's the aforementioned 1851 census, and two other sources that were listed in the other answer in case you wanted them all listed together.

*"England and Wales Census, 1851," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGFF-M6L : 20 October 2017), Emma Sanderson in household of Isaac Russell, Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England; citing Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England, p. 23, from "1851 England, Scotland and Wales census," database and images, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : n.d.); citing PRO HO 107, The National Archives of the UK, Kew, Surrey.

*"England and Wales Marriage Registration Index, 1837-2005," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2DVD-FGY : 13 December 2014), Emma Thompson Davey, 1863; from “England & Wales Marriages, 1837-2005,” database, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : 2012); citing 1863, quarter 2, vol. 9D, p. 289, Hull, Yorkshire, England, General Register Office, Southport, England.

*"England, Lincolnshire, Parish Registers, 1538-1990," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QL1P-RL7D : 16 March 2018), Emma Thomason Davey in entry for Walter Harry Davey, 04 May 1856; citing Baptism, 04 May 1856, Hundleby, Lincolnshire, England, United Kingdom, Lincolnshire Record Office, Lincoln; FHL microfilm 1,541,985.

Fantastic!  Thanks Jon :)  will put those links on their pages asap.  Big help!
Great!  Glad I could help!
