Challenge of the week: Clean up as many location names as possible [closed]

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our "Data Doctors" Challenge? This week's challenge focuses on location fields.

Aleš has prepared a report of profiles from around the tree that have potential errors in their locations. These are usually simple typos that are easy to fix. But a thinking genealogist needs to give them a quick "reality check" and consider the intent of the original member and the sources before making any changes. Will you try some?

After making a change, click the "challenge tracker" button and then the edit the status. This will record a point. The member with the most points at 11:59pm EDT on Sunday night will get the badge and the bragging rights. But we'll all benefit from a neater, cleaner shared tree.

If you're participating, please post here to let us know. This helps us coordinate and cheer each other on. Or post if you have any questions about how to participate.

Thanks for helping!

Challenge Tracker

I have a question.  On many locations, there is a large number in the birth and death locations, such as "Annapolis Royal, 1654145, Nova Scotia, Canada" such as [[Rice-6558]].  We get 605 and 635 "number in birth/death location".  What should be done with that number?  I don't know what it is, so I don't want to remove it, or just add it to the bio text area without some explanation.  Does anyone have an idea about how to handle those?   Thanks

I just found an answer to a question that someone else had posted about this problem.  Looks like the consensus is to just put it into the bio area since it seems to be GPS coordinates, but I only see one number usually.

This is a sore point with me, so YES, I will join.

When I first joined wikitree someone criticized me for not putting USA or United States after the state names. Now I'm very aware of when that' appropriate or not by date. But I'm also aware of how many people in other countries abbreviate provinces or whatever and leave off the country names. It is starting to offend me. Sometimes I'm not sure where the location is.

So Yes, I will work on locations.

Yes, I’ve already fixed several.  Standard locations really help connect profiles and with sourcing.

Is anyone having trouble tracking right now? I am able to clean and save profiles, but not able to track them.

Thank you.
